Nagoya Municipal Subway 3050 Series / 名古屋市交通局3050形

The 3050 Series (3050形) is a commuter type EMU operated by Nagoya Municipal Subway on the Tsurumai Line.

With Tsurumai Line extension to Kamiotai Station opening in 1993, the 3050 series was produced for new through running services on the Meitetsu Inuyama Line. It was arranged in 6 car sets instead of the 4 cars of the 3000 series to accommodate the expected increase in passenger volume. To reduce production costs, efforts were made to standardize equipment with the 6000 series running on the Sakura-dori Line. The design of the exterior was also similar, with the installation of a skirt on the leading cars being the only major difference. A total of 56 cars were manufactured with 8 full sets. There was also a single set composed of 4 3050 cars with 2 3000 series motor cars in the middle, having a 4M2T configuration instead of 3M3T. The 3000 series were being consolidated into 6 car sets at the same via combining the middle cars of two sets into a single set and scrapping excess leading cars, but due to the odd number of trains there were two surplus middle cars at the end, leading to the strange formation described above being assembled. With the introduction of the N3000 series replacing the remaining 3000 series cars, the single combined formation was also scrapped in 2019. The other 8 sets remain in active use with no plans of withdrawal.
