Description
Gedling Colliery, located on the Great Northern Railway’s ‘Back Line’ through Nottinghamshire, was a major source of coal traffic in the East Midlands, often nicknamed ‘the pit of all nations’ owing to the diversity of its workforce. Most of the coal was shipped out by rail, and this meant extensive shunting was often undertaken. On a cold winter morning in 1952, you are at the controls of an ex-LMS 4F that has just arrived at the colliery. The NCB shunter has broken down, and as a result you will need to assist with assembling the coal trains due to head for Annesley later in the day. Take care with the coal trucks-they can be very heavy, a matter not helped by the fact your engine has a steam leak! Duration: about 20 minutes.

DLC Requirements:
Netherfield: Nottingham Network (Thompson B1, Stanier 8F, Robinson O4 and LMS 4F all come bundled with the route; ensure they are installed before trying to run this scenario)
Western Lines of Scotland
European Loco and Asset Pack

Note: the default lighting on this route is rather poor, which can make seeing where one is going difficult. My advice would be to try playing in a darkened room or using the skies from the AP Sky and Weather Pack.

Note 2: I have been informed that this scenario does not depict operations at Gedling accurately. As such, an updated scenario depicting such operations will be uploaded in the coming days.

@Fairrosamund Thank you for the technical information. I must admit I was not familiar with operational practice at Gedling, and as such have decided to build another scenario at Gedling which will depict operations as you describe them.

@pjohnandlyns Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed.

A good nostalgic scenario for me as I used to work down this Pit many years ago .However this scenario is not technically correct because only empty wagons were stabled in the upper sidings then brought down the bank through the gates for the coal to be loaded then shunted to the full sidings for dispatch. This is because our (NCB) loco's could not push a loaded train of wagons up the 1/100 bank to the empty sidings.Over the years I must have helped to fill many a wagon.Just for the record Gedling Pit is now a Country Park! Thank you for sharing this scenario.

Hi H.S. Have to agree with @chris on this and it ran OK with no problems. Tea and lunch before a run in the 8 F.:steamhappy::steamthumbsup:

@chris I found I had to boost the ambient light to see what I was doing. I experienced similarly dark days in Nottingham-walking from my student housing to the tram stop in winter wasn't fun, partly as it was very dark and often bitterly cold.

Interesting shunting task thank you HS. On tricky side but all managed OK and looking forward to the tea. Although the effect of looking through all that snow might just need a lie down in a darkened room. Makes me appreciate what my grandfather must have experienced at times and what they had to endure at times. 4F coped well. Kind Regards. Chris
