Description
The 6000 Series (6000形) is a subway vehicle operated by Nagoya Municipal Subway since 1987.

Designed for the scheduled opening of the Sakura-dori Line in 1989, the 6000 series is the first all stainless steel vehicle constructed in the city. It has the length of standard commuter trains at 20 meters, and a design speed of 120km/h. These specifications are typically found on vehicles serving subway lines with through service to above ground commuter lines, while the Sakura-dori Line is fully underground with no through running, and the operating speed is only 75km/h. It is likely that this is the result of equipment standardisation with Tsurumai Line vehicles, as the two shares an inspection and maintenance facility. The 6000 series also uses overhead lines and runs on narrow gauge tracks, the same as Tsurumai Line vehicles. Support for one-man operations was considered in the design, which resulted in the cab being moved further right to allow for vision down the entire platform. A single 4-car set was produced in 1987, two years prior to the opening of the Sakura-dori Line. Successful test operations were performed on the Tsurumai Line, and the vehicle also has a short history of commercial operations on the aforementioned line. 12 4-car sets was subsequently produced for the line's opening. With the extension to Nonami Station in 1994, 7 5-car sets was added to the fleet, and all existing sets were extended to 5 cars as well. Therefore, the total number of vehicles is 100 cars in 20 sets, all of which are in service as of today.
