Description
The 2000 Series (2000形) is a third-rail powered subway vehicle operated by Nagoya Municipal Subway.

Introduced just prior to the 1989 World Design Expo in Nagoya, the 2000 series were built in an effort to improve the availability of air conditioning on Nagoya's subway network. The type has an all-stainless steel body bearing similarities to other older standard gauge subway lines such as Tokyo Metro's two earliest lines. VVVF type control equipment is installed with each device controlling eight motors spread across two cars, some of these were later updated to newer models due to equipment deterioration. 5 trains of 6 cars each were introduced for the 1989 Expo, while a further 31 sets were produced to gradually replace the 1000 series and for the Meijo Line extension in 2000. The total number of vehicles is 216 cars in 36 sets, with manufacturing lasting until 2004. Currently, all services on the Meijo and Meiko Lines are operated by the 2000 series. The Meijo Line is the only true subway loop line in Japan (Toei Oedo Line forms a loop but does not operate as one), while the Meiko Line is a de facto extension with through service. Due to the installation of platform gates on both lines in 2016, all sets were retrofitted with ATO.
