Extra Terrain Tools

Description
Description

I love making maps with a natural feel but building up "nature" from the blank canvas provided by Timberborn's map editor can be a daunting task.
This mod aims to help with that by providing tools to budding and experienced map creators alike.
The goal is to build those tools based on well-established techniques in procedural generation to allow you to quickly create and iterate on your map design.

Right now the "suite" is kinda small but I have a few ideas in the pipe. If there are any specific creative tools you would like to see then leave a comment here or the mod's thread in the official Timberborn discord.
If you have a bug report related to the mod please post them in the Discord thread.

Tools in v0.9.3
  • Editor History - You can now Undo your mistakes using all new shortcuts and keybindings to match.
  • Undo / Redo - Ctrl + Z / Y
  • Undo x 5 / Redo x 5 - Ctrl + Shift + Z / Y
  • Smoothing Brush - Smooth terrain as much as blocks allow.
  • Path Painter - Draw ridges and valleys or other shapes with this linedrawing tool.
  • Mound Maker - Place a procedural mountain. Can also dig and apply vertical noise in a smaller area. Play with the noise parameters.
  • Heightmap Generator - Generate a procedurally generated map with a single click. Full manual available on GitHub[github.com].

Planned tools

- Copy/Paste tool

Required Game version

Update 7

Since this project is developed during my free time I am not supporting older versions of the mod/game.
This means:
- New features will not be retroactively added to work in older versions of the game.
- Issues that cannot be recreated with the latest game version and mod will not be fixed.

With that said if you run an older game version the appropriate mod version for that game version should still load.

Installation

Use Steam Workshop or Mod.io

Known issues

- Changing large chunks of terrain while water is on the map can cause issues with the game's water system. The mod does its best to clear up any existing water before applying changes that could break but occasionally this is not enough.
Recommendation: if you have placed water/badwater sources or have water on the map Save before clicking Apply/Generate.

@Jacek I have some unreleased fixes for crashes related to the History service logging changes and I haven't been able recreate the issues you describe using that code. So a tentative "fixed in next release" but without the logs that is, at best, an educated guess.

If you have issues after the next mod update keep the reports coming, if you can't upload to discord I'm gonna need detailed steps to reproduce the error.

Aiming for a new version this week or next but currently waiting for a replacement power supply so no promises.

I keep finding bugs
when using path making tool in reverse under trees in crashes the game when you press play

When the game crashes, it generates a ZIP file with log files and a save game in Documents\Timberborn\Error reports. Find the one matching the time of your crash and share it and I can take a look.

Hmm, if you could head over to the official Timberborn Discord and post the crash report in "Individual mods > Extra Terrain Tools" that'd be super.

Thanks for letting me know Jacek. The smoothing brush is getting a technical rework in an upcoming update, which should hopefully fix it, so watch this space.

Thx for the report, I think I managed to recreate it and a fix has been found for next patch

No, that one is new to me, I'll take a look this weekend.
If you could post the crash report on the discord thread that'd be really helpful.
