WP's New Worlds (3.14)

My Mods: Extra Info & Old Versions
8 items
Description
Introduction:

This mod is a bloat-free way to simply add new planets to your galaxy. There are nearly 100 of them! New worlds is reliable and performant, with no balance changes and very few moving pieces. A good choice for a Vanilla+ modlist.

There are no origins. No civics. No traditions. No arcologies. No species traits. No mega-structures. No decisions. No resources. No story events. No new mechanics. No weird balance decisions.

No game-play or CPU performance hit whatsoever.

Just New Worlds!

Built for and requires my Planet Viewer mod. Load this beneath (after) it.

🌏How it Works:
The new worlds are themed in what I think is the most simple approach, which will be familiar to users of some of the other planet mods already on the workshop: Each vanilla planet class (E.g Alpine, Arid, Tropical) can now appear in several new variants.

For example there are now Coral, Whirlpool and Depths worlds, all of which are new varieties of Ocean World to discover.

There are Junk, Irradiated, Graveyard and Shadow Worlds, all of which are varieties of Tomb world.

(To name a few.)

The planets are basically skins: They have vanilla game-play/habitability/terraforming and simply exist to provide new flavour, themes and richer storytelling as the story of your galaxy unfolds.

Petrified forests, bio-luminescent jungles, giant mushrooms, epic canyons, rich safaris, sprawling webs, snowy forests, haunted glades, flowering fields, there is a lot to find.

Please let me know which ones you like or that your aliens live on!

🎨New Surface Art:
  • All the new worlds each feature two unique UI images.
  • First, an image of the surface of the planet behind your governor and pops in the side view.
  • Second, a different artwork for the lower area (and on which your armies will battle on in ground combat.)

🖼️Planet Visuals:
  • Worlds are also given their own planet model appearance.
  • Base textures are very high quality - familiar from the "Immersive Galaxy" series!
  • Many have then been tweaked/recoloured/according to theme.
  • For example, the "Sanguine" world, with blood-red seas, will have actual red seas visible from orbit.

  • Planets in this mod have also variable lengths of day.
  • Some spin very fast, some much slower, some spin clockwise, some counterclockwise!

  • New textures for other celestial bodies such as gas giants.
  • You can read about IG here and find further information about how it is used in this mod in the "Compatibility" thread below.

☁️Extreme Weathers:
  • Some worlds exhibit "Extreme" or otherwise persistent weather.
  • These weathers shape the planet and are a huge part of their identity.
  • Examples include the Tempest World, with raging waters, the Lightning World, with echoing thunder, the Mist World, shrouded in a dense layer of fog.
  • There are more, but I won't spoil them all.
  • These worlds have unique names and cannot be weather manipulated (until you terra-form.)

  • All other worlds can experience regular weathers.
  • You can have a "Canyon Fog World" or a "Canyon Dust World" and with weather manipulation make a "Canyon Rain World" and so on.

⚠️Other Features
  • City landscapes are largely vanilla in appearance, this means they are always high quality and are highly compatible with all city sets (including modded), which is not always true for planet variety mods.
  • Lastly, there is possible support for custom tile art.

📜Full Documentation
As with all my mods, full documentation is available on this public spreadsheet.[docs.google.com] It lists all the worlds in the mod so far, but you might like to avoid checking it and just play blind, experience some fun surprises!

Recommendations
  • Any of my other mods that affect planets will go nicely here.
  • Check out Piets Uncharted Worlds. It's in a league of it's own for a galaxy mod and comes with some incredible city environments to boot, which would compliment these planets and diversify them.
  • I made the custom home-world select screen with UIOD in mind. (Not technically required, but looks good to have. Load it above this.)
  • Check the collection at the top for my other mods load order details.

Special Thanks / Credits:
Many thanks to PD, RS:NF, ATW, and any other planet mods of the past who have each inspired me in their own ways.

To that guy who worked with me on many of the planet descriptions!

To Dwaine who, seven years ago, provided some amazing planet model textures which I've edited for this project. He's moved on from modding nowadays but was happy for people to share his work as long as there is a credit as per this comment.

Yeah honestly I like their current preview for the 4.1 planet viewer! It's pretty good and resolves a good chunk of what was wrong at 4.0's release. I'm thinking that with the launch of 4.2 the dust will be properly settled and this mod will be back in action!

Out of curiosity, now that the summer UI experiments have been revealed are you optimistic that they will provide you a better base to work on? Or was it just nibbling at the edges of the outdated issues in Stellaris UI?

Da'Nadda! 😆
I'm oldschool I guess: RTFM was burnt into my head in my Navy days back in the olden times...before the Empire. :steamhappy:

Thanks so much for understanding and explaining the situation!

@Zellar the mod author has fully explained WHY his mods are locked at 3.14 UNTIL PDX gets finished futzing around.
(Just look at the mess going on with BPV atm.)

While I can't wait to try his 'set', I'm happy to wait until the '4.0' branch settles. This 4.0.22 update REALLY screwed up some mods. ---no complaint there either as '.22' is a HUGE bugfix patch.

The mod for 4.0.22 doesn't work? I tried running only WP's Planet View + WP's New Worlds and get a crash when loading 100%.
