Description
The 305 Series (305系) is a DC commuter train operated by JR Kyushu.

Entering service in 2015, the 305 series was designed for through operations between the JR Chikuhi Line and Fukuoka Subway's Kūkō (Airport) Line. The 103-1500 series had long been used on these services, but the aging fleet caused frequent breakdowns that led to service disruptions, therefore a new type was developed to replace them. The exterior body is fully white with the cab painted black, similar to the 817 series. Automatic train operation is installed and used while running on the Kūkō Line, but manual driving is required on the JR Chikuhi Line. While keeping the long seating layout, a new interior cabin was installed to provide a welcoming atmosphere to both locals and tourists. The seat backs and made of plywood, and seats not in front of a window have headrests. The flooring of the KuHa 305 cars uses curupau wood from South America, which is also present on the luxury tourist train Seven Stars in Kyushu. Other cars uses conventional train flooring with a "QR Code" pattern. A total of 36 cars arranged in 6 sets of 6 were produced in this series, allowing JR Kyushu to fully withdrawal the 103 series from subway through services. The 305 series typically operates between Fukuoka-kuko (Airport) Station of Fukuoka Subway and Chikuzen-Maebaru Station on the Chikuhi Line, along with peak hour direct trains to Karatsu Station. It can also be used to operate on subway only runs in case of schedule disruptions.
