Description
The 7000 Series (7000系) is a commuter type EMU operated by Keihan Electric Railway since 1989.

Introduced as additional vehicles following the opening of the Ōtō Line, which links the Keihan Main Line with it's subsidiary Eizan Electric Railway. This type followed the exterior design of the 6000 series, with the main difference being upgraded control systems and more powerful motors. These changes allowed for the type to have greater acceleration performance compared to all other vehicles on the Keihan network at the time. Subsequent vehicles were also designed with the same performance as the 7000 series, which became the new standard for the company. Two 6 car sets and one 4 car set was manufactured in 1989, the latter operating on the branch lines. In 1992 all sets were extended to 7 cars, and 4 new vehicles were produced and formed another 7-car set with 3 experimental VVVF vehicles of the 6000 series, which were renumbered and incorporated. Therefore, the total number of 7000 series vehicles in existence is 28. All sets were modified to support barrier-free access in 2008, and became the first to adopt Keihan's new livery later the same year. Extensive refurbishment and life-extension work began in 2022, replacing control equipment and remodelling the interior to match the new 13000 series.
