Tobu 500 Series / 東武500系

The 500 Series (500系) is a limited express type EMU operated by Tobu Railway.

Introduced in the 2017 as the next generation of limited express trains for the Tobu network, the 500 series aimed to update and renew the company's flagship services. It is nicknamed "Revaty" which approximates the pronunciation of the English word "Liberty" when read in Japanese. The name refers to the freedom of the train to operate with highly flexible formations and on a variety of lines. The leading cars have a streamlined shape and a walk-through connecting door, which allows passengers to pass through when coupled. White is used as the primarily color of the passenger cabins, with a wave-like design on the ceiling inspired by Tokyo's rivers. The seats and walls are adorned with Edo-era Komon designs, with a particular focus on traditionally auspicious dragonfly motifs. Manufacturing of the 500 series had been ongoing since 2016 at a relatively slow pace, with a total of 51 cars currently in service. All carriages are arranged in fixed 3-car sets, which are then coupled together to form services of varying lengths. The 500 series is currently operated on limited express Kegon and Kinu on the Nikko Line and Kinugawa line, while Aizu directly connects with Yagan Railway and Aizu Railway. They are also in service on the Isesaki Line as Ryomo, in addition other less common services such as Skytree Liner. The prefix "Revaty" is typically attached to the name of the service to distinguish them from those operated by other types.
