Description
The 8500 Series (8500形) is a tram vehicle operated by Toei on the Toden-Arakawa Line.

Manufactured from 1990 to 1993, the 8500 series was the first new type to be introduced to the Arakawa Line in 28 years. Designed with a smart exterior, the type was intended to revalitize the last remaining line of Tokyo's once expansive tram network. The 8500 series is made of lightweight steel, with enlarged front windows and sharper edges to emphasis a modern look. It is also equipped with updated passenger information displays and automatic announcements. The original seating arrangement was long seats, although some later vehicles have different layouts. Toei had intended to replace all of it's previous regular vehicles with the 8500 Series, but financial difficulties during the 90s financial crisis led to production being halted after just 5 cars. All vehicles had a number of renew works carried out in the 2010s, replacing the pantograph, LED displays, and running equipment. Currently all 5 cars are in service on the Toden-Arakawa Line.
