Description
The 415 Series (415系) is a commuter EMU operated by JR Kyushu.

Developed by JNR as a AC/DC dual voltage commuter train, the 415 series first entered service in 1971. JNR began converting several main lines across the country to AC in the 1960s, but several important connections could not be converted due to various reasons. Dual voltage trains will allow direct operations across the intersecting areas, such as the Kanmon Tunnel connecting Shimonoseki with Kyushu. The 415 series is divided into 2 distinct subtypes, 347 cars were produced of the first group, made up of steel-body cars with the classic JNR commuter train design. These units look very similar to the 113 and 115 series. In 1986 the 1500 variant was developed, these have a completely revamped exterior based on the 211 series with a stainless steel body, although the equipment remains largely the same to allow it to jointly operate with the older trains. In addition to Kyushu, both variants were introduced onto the Joban Line, and subsequently operated by JR East. The total number of cars produced is 488, 141 of which is the newer stainless steel design. The base variant of the 415 series was withdrawn by JR East in 2007, and operated by JR Kyushu until 2022, but none are left as of today. For the stainless steel variant, they were retired from JR East's fleet in 2016, and currently in use by JR Kyushu around Kitakyushu. The 56 active cars are all arranged into sets of 4, and are currently the only dual voltage vehicles owned by JR Kyushu. As dual voltage capability is required to operate across the Kanmon Tunnel, this type is likely to remain for some years.

-Please note only the stainless steel 1500 series variant is included in this mod.
