Description
The 1000 Series (1000系) is a commuter EMU operated by Keihan Electric Railway since 1977.

Another vehicle type manufactured for the voltage increase on the Keihan network, the 1000 series was modified from former 700 series cars (not to be confused with the current trams on the Otsu lines also designated as the 700 series). The car body was reused and combined with newly manufactured equipment, air conditioning were also installed in all vehicles. Interestingly, some 700 series vehicles were themselves converted from 1000 series (second generation) cars, therefore they were given the 1000 series designation for the second time. 42 vehicles of this type was produced arranged in 6 trains of 7 cars each. Body repair work and replacement of electrical equipment was carried out in the 1990s, the passenger cabin had also been refreshed. All cars are currently in service on the Keihan Main Line, operating interchangeably with other 7-car trains.
