Ranking All 126 Elden Ring Armor Sets From Worst to Best...
By FIRUIN
Do you remember what you were doing 18 months ago?
  • Taking exams?
  • Going on a first date with your current partner?
  • Uh, celebrating Christmas?
That's a pretty reasonable assumption, I guess, considering how the calendar works.

18 months ago, he was taking this exact video idea and shelving it for when he knew he was finally running low on equipment to make a list out of, but still wasn't quite ready to scrape the rim of the trash can lid for banger video ideas like
  • Limgrave Tree Tier List, or
  • What Your Main Weapon Says About You, or
  • some other BuzzFeed-adjacent waste of YouTube server space.

Those are his, by the way. He's calling those.

They'll probably never happen, but if you've ever wondered how close he's to surrendering to mental illness, whether or not those videos have been made could be a great indication.

Alright, ♥♥♥♥ this weird-ass monologue.
Let's just do the guide.

Introduction
The value of a set of armor is determined by many stats, many conditions, and many isolated variables that seem unimportant by themselves, but are worth more than the sum of their parts, when put together.

Some armor sets are excellent against a very specific type of damage, while others could offer really great poison or frost resistance.

Heavier armor sets give the player an absurdly high poise value, while lighter sets allow you the movement range of a caffeine-addled kid in a trampoline park.

My ultimate point is, a list of 126 anything objectively cannot be simple.

Yet, when I was formulating all the stats and looking up how to multiply ♥♥♥♥ on Google Sheets, I already knew exactly what the lowest spot would be reserved for.

№ 126 — Bloodsoaked set
    Bloodsoaked set
  • Head = Bloodsoaked Mask
  • Body = Official's Attire
  • Arms = Bloodsoaked Manchettes
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 3
  • 🔨 Strike = 3,2
  • 🪓 Slash = 2,7
  • 📌 Pierce = 2,6
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 7,5
  • 🟥 Fire = 7,3
  • 🟨 Lightning = 7,4
  • ⬜️ Holy = 7,5
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 32
  • 🔴 Robustness = 19
  • 🟠 Focus = 54
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 19
    Poise = 5
    Weight = 3,6

I didn't even know damage negation could get this low. It's the Bloodsoaked set.

The set with the second lowest physical defense still reaches over double this amount, and its total elemental negation is 29.7.

Most heavy armors have higher defense values against a single element.

This is an unprecedented level of pathetic.

This ♥♥♥♥ is like the Wingstop Fries of armor sets.

You might as well cut up a yoga mat and duct tape the pieces to your knees and shoulders.

A child's bicycle helmet could offer more protection than this.

I would feel safer charging into combat, at wearing a cardboard box.

Everything about this armor set is just miserable, and the only attention it ever deserves in any context is to be laughed at and ignored.
№ 125 — Marionette Soldier set
    Marionette Soldier set
  • Head = Marionette Soldier Helm
  • Body = Marionette Soldier Armor
  • Arms =
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 15,7
  • 🔨 Strike = 16,9
  • 🪓 Slash = 11,6
  • 📌 Pierce = 12,2
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 11,6
  • 🟥 Fire = 11,6
  • 🟨 Lightning = 8,8
  • ⬜️ Holy = 11,6
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 34
  • 🔴 Robustness = 72
  • 🟠 Focus = 30
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 26
    Poise = 24
    Weight = 12,6

Absolutely no surprises here.

You need only take a single glance at the armor's icon, because it tells you everything you need to know.

One single comparison with any armor piece, and the subsequent wall of blue text showing up in front of your face, tells this armor set's entire story in less than five seconds.

It only fulfills two of the four armor slots, which is a large contributor, to its piss-poor defense.

But there are entire four-piece sets that weigh less than this.

These two pieces of armor weigh over twelve and a half pounds together, and that's in exchange for less than nine percent lightning negation, and some of the worst status resistance I've ever laid my innocent little eyes on.

I would feel pretty vulnerable, too, if I unscrewed the grate in my dad's wood pellet grill, and started wearing it like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ blazer.
№ 124 + № 123 — two Festive sets
    Festive Set
  • Head = Festive Hood
  • Body = Festive Garb
  • Arms =
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 5,5
  • 🔨 Strike = 7
  • 🪓 Slash = 8
  • 📌 Pierce = 7
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 16,5
  • 🟥 Fire = 15,6
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16,2
  • ⬜️ Holy = 17

  • 🟢 Immunity = 60
  • 🔴 Robustness = 30
  • 🟠 Focus = 96
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 96
    Poise = 9
    Weight = 5,8

    Blue Festive Set
  • Head = Blue Festive Hood
  • Body = Blue Festive Garb
  • Arms =
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 5,5
  • 🔨 Strike = 5,5
  • 🪓 Slash = 8
  • 📌 Pierce = 7
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 16,5
  • 🟥 Fire = 14,9
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16,5
  • ⬜️ Holy = 18
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 66
  • 🔴 Robustness = 30
  • 🟠 Focus = 102
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 90
    Poise = 9
    Weight = 5,8

The hell you dancin' for?
Sit your ass down.

And how does that weak-ass blanket, add 1.5% strike negation?

That's the only thing that gets added to the whole set, so am I supposed to believe this pillowcase-looking sheet of wasted materials is gonna protect me from getting injured?

The blue set actually subtracts fire negation, I assume because dry burlap hangin' off your back isn't exactly the most fireproof strategy.

Both sets only give you 30 resistance against bleed and frost, which are some of the worst numbers you can find, versus some of the most oppressive status effects in the game.

And the others are barely enough to be considered serviceable.

It's a damn shame, too, because these honestly look sexy as hell.
№ 122 — Juvenile Scholar set
    Juvenile Scholar set
  • Head = Juvenile Scholar Cap
  • Body = Juvenile Scholar Robe
  • Arms =
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 6,6
  • 🔨 Strike = 7,7
  • 🪓 Slash = 7,7
  • 📌 Pierce = 6,6
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 16,7
  • 🟥 Fire = 15,4
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16
  • ⬜️ Holy = 16,4
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 53
  • 🔴 Robustness = 35
  • 🟠 Focus = 89
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 100
    Poise = 9
    Weight = 5,5

This set, on the other hand, does not look sexy as hell.

Nothing about the aesthetic of coughing up 120k for a business degree from Sink Pisser University, and then working in fast food for the next seven years screams the word sexy to me.

And would it have killed you to slap at least a little more magic negation on this?

I mean, sure, it's barely a decimal point higher than the others, technically, but this is a magic robe.

I'm not expecting brick wall defenses or anything, but anything more than 6% standard damage, or damage negation would be a nice favor.

There is no way so many people were that desperate to get into the academy if this was the ♥♥♥♥ you wore to lectures.
№ 121 — Albinauric set
    Albinauric set
  • Head = Albinauric Mask
  • Body = Dirty Chainmail
  • Arms =
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 14,9
  • 🔨 Strike = 11,6
  • 🪓 Slash = 15,4
  • 📌 Pierce = 14,7
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 10,3
  • 🟥 Fire = 11,6
  • 🟨 Lightning = 8
  • ⬜️ Holy = 10,3
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 37
  • 🔴 Robustness = 73
  • 🟠 Focus = 31
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 31
    Poise = 23
    Weight = 12,6

I've noticed a common theme with these bottom-level sets, which is that they're usually missing one or two pieces of what's normally a four-piece ensemble.

That's already a pretty massive hit to overall defense and resistance, but when you take one piece and give it some meaningless perk, like plus 13 steak grilling efficiency if you have more than three people at your house on a weekend, all you're gonna do is piss me off.

As though, four measly Arcane points facilitates the use of one of the dumbest pieces of headgear I've ever looked at. It's found in Volcano Manor, too, and chances are you've already settled on a build by then.

And if that build doesn't involve Arcane, then there isn't gonna be any point to this.

13 pounds for 23 poise.

Go ♥♥♥♥ yourself.
№ 120 — Fia's set
    Fia's set
  • Head = Fia's Hood
  • Body = Fia's Robe
  • Arms =
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 6,6
  • 🔨 Strike = 7,7
  • 🪓 Slash = 6,6
  • 📌 Pierce = 6,6
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 16,4
  • 🟥 Fire = 16
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16,4
  • ⬜️ Holy = 17
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 64
  • 🔴 Robustness = 29
  • 🟠 Focus = 105
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 153
    Poise = 10
    Weight = 6,8

Well, it has great death blight resistance.
That's about it.

Actually, no, it's not even that great.

It's only good considering the size and weight of the full set, which, again, consists of only two ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pieces.

I wouldn't ever try to make 153 vitality sound bad, but death blight is one of the least common status effects you ever run into. It's right up there with sleep.

I'm sure my opinion will change when Shadow of the Erdtree introduces big-ass death blight crows or some ♥♥♥♥, but even then, Fia's set still doesn't even fall in the top 10 highest vitality resistance sets.

It doesn't even fall in the top 20.

Two of the starter class armors have higher vitality than this set.
№ 119 — House Marais set
    House Marais set
  • Head = Marais Mask
  • Body = Marais Robe
  • Arms =
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 7,2
  • 🔨 Strike = 5,9
  • 🪓 Slash = 8,2
  • 📌 Pierce = 4
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 16,6
  • 🟥 Fire = 16,3
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16,4
  • ⬜️ Holy = 16,6
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 62
  • 🔴 Robustness = 42
  • 🟠 Focus = 106
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 100
    Poise = 12
    Weight = 6,3

The Fia and House Marais sets were so close to each other, in terms of just about everything, that I only decided to give House Marais the edge, due to its extra one point of Arcane.

And exactly one point above the Fia set is all the good grace it's getting from me.

4% total pierce negation, I think, might be the lowest of any defense I've seen in the whole game, outside of the Bloodsoaked set.

Elemental negations are a straight 16 and change across the board, which will never do anything special. And its highest stat resistance being Focus honestly just makes me mad.

This robe gives me nothing but pain and bother, and I'm sick of looking at it.
№ 118 — Old Aristocrat set
    Old Aristocrat set
  • Head = Old Aristocrat Cowl
  • Body = Old Aristocrat Gown
  • Arms =
  • Legs = Old Aristocrat Shoes
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 12,5
  • 🔨 Strike = 12,5
  • 🪓 Slash = 11,5
  • 📌 Pierce = 12,5
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 16,1
  • 🟥 Fire = 17,7
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16,5
  • ⬜️ Holy = 12,5
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 82
  • 🔴 Robustness = 51
  • 🟠 Focus = 67
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 74
    Poise = 15
    Weight = 9,3

Wow, a robe-like getup with defenses that aren't actual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Just kidding, they still suck.

12s across the board for physical negation.

Elemental negations are okay, I guess.

But the extremely low Holy defense just means it's gonna get sacrificed into the garbage once you head into Leyndell and beyond.

It's still only a three-piece set, which means no matter how good the defenses are individually, you're still missing out on a potential one-fourth of total damage negation.

And when the deciding factors between which armors go where are so tightly packed, together that you had to make an Excel sheet just for this video, one-fourth makes a large difference.
№ 117 — Ruler's set
    Ruler's set
  • Head = Ruler's Mask
  • Body = Ruler's Robe
  • Arms =
  • Legs =
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 7
  • 🔨 Strike = 8,8
  • 🪓 Slash = 8,8
  • 📌 Pierce = 5,4
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 17
  • 🟥 Fire = 16,2
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16,8
  • ⬜️ Holy = 17,3

  • 🟢 Immunity = 66
  • 🔴 Robustness = 34
  • 🟠 Focus = 109
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 109
    Poise = 13
    Weight = 7,3

Two-piece schmoo-piece.
This helmet gives one extra Faith.

Alright, you know what?
Fine.

You sell me the set, then.

You try to see how hard this ♥♥♥♥ is.

Giving you one extra Faith is the only standout feature, so why should I give a ♥♥♥♥ about highlighting anything else?

You want me to talk about its ♥♥♥♥-awful physical negation for 30 seconds like you're not gonna hear it anywhere else 57 other times in the script?

Well, nuns don't work on Sundays and neither do I.

Today's Sunday.
By the way, when I'm typing this line.

So, just some context for you there.
№ 116 — Traveler's set
    Traveler's set
  • Head =
  • Body = Traveler's Clothes
  • Arms = Traveler's Manchettes
  • Legs = Traveler's Boots
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 11,1
  • 🔨 Strike = 9,8
  • 🪓 Slash = 8,2
  • 📌 Pierce = 5,8
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 22,6
  • 🟥 Fire = 21,5
  • 🟨 Lightning = 21,8
  • ⬜️ Holy = 21,2
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 72
  • 🔴 Robustness = 47
  • 🟠 Focus = 139
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 139
    Poise = 16
    Weight = 8,9

Traveling implies certain hardships like adversity and combat and long hikes with your friends or something.

And this set prepares you for absolutely none of that despite being as fashionable as it is because if we're going specifically by the aesthetics, this might be one of my favorite sets, as I'm sure is the case with millions of other players.

If you can handle this set being ranked as low as it is due to its ♥♥♥♥ defenses, then you can probably handle most of what I'm throwing at you, in this video, without getting too pissed at me.
№ 115 — High Page set
    High Page set
  • Head = High Page Hood
  • Body = High Page Clothes
  • Arms =
  • Legs = Page Trousers
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 6,3
  • 🔨 Strike = 8,5
  • 🪓 Slash = 6,3
  • 📌 Pierce = 6,3
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 17,4
  • 🟥 Fire = 16,4
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16,8
  • ⬜️ Holy = 17,1
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 81
  • 🔴 Robustness = 44
  • 🟠 Focus = 147
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 147
    Poise = 17
    Weight = 9,2

Now, here's a set no one in their right mind is gonna defend.

At least not without taking off their hood that looks like it got caught in a paper shredder and clumsily hiding it behind their back.

The focus here was clearly its elemental defense, since some of them begin to tickle the scrotum of the 20 mark, but not quite reaching it.

The status resistances are a damn proper joke, since it's two highest are Focus and Vitality at 147, but any of the actual stat defenses that would have been useful can barely climb above 70.

In a video topic, where higher numbers objectively mean a higher ranking, this set somehow manages to take high numbers and make them look like total ♥♥♥♥.
№ 114 — Fur set
    Fur set
  • Head = Great Horned Headband
  • Body = Fur Raiment
  • Arms =
  • Legs = Fur Leggings
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 11,8
  • 🔨 Strike = 13
  • 🪓 Slash = 11,8
  • 📌 Pierce = 11,8
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 13
  • 🟥 Fire = 13,8
  • 🟨 Lightning = 16,6
  • ⬜️ Holy = 13,8
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 135
  • 🔴 Robustness = 91
  • 🟠 Focus = 116
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 84
    Poise = 17
    Weight = 11,5

It's definitely not preferable, and I definitely won't make fun of you too much if you decide to say it looks good,

even though we both know it's just because you like staring at your character's legs.

Considering its weight, the physical defenses honestly aren't the worst possible option, and it's also one of the few sets with Lightning as its highest elemental defense.

But those comparisons can only be made when looking at its own stats.

You'll end up seeing, just how frequently this set loses out against other pieces in your inventory as soon as you start comparing them.

Meaning the only possible use for this would be its higher than average immunity number.

And even then, I have items and a spell for that.
№ 113 — Aristocrat set
    Aristocrat set
  • Head = Aristocrat Headband
  • Body = Aristocrat Garb
  • Arms =
  • Legs = Aristocrat Boots
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 13,4
  • 🔨 Strike = 14,6
  • 🪓 Slash = 13,4
  • 📌 Pierce = 13,1
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 13,4
  • 🟥 Fire = 13,6
  • 🟨 Lightning = 15,1
  • ⬜️ Holy = 13,4
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 91
  • 🔴 Robustness = 64
  • 🟠 Focus = 84
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 71
    Poise = 21
    Weight = 9

The Physical defense is ♥♥♥♥,
elemental defense is ♥♥♥♥,
stat resistances are laughable.

Might as well be strolling into battle with a graphic t-shirt and cargo pants on.
№ 112 — Guilty set
    Guilty set
  • Head = Guilty Hood
  • Body = Cloth Garb
  • Arms =
  • Legs = Cloth Trousers
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 8,9
  • 🔨 Strike = 7,7
  • 🪓 Slash = 5,8
  • 📌 Pierce = 6,5
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 22,7
  • 🟥 Fire = 21,8
  • 🟨 Lightning = 21,5
  • ⬜️ Holy = 22,3
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 83
  • 🔴 Robustness = 46
  • 🟠 Focus = 124
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 128
    Poise = 10
    Weight = 6,6

This one is somehow worse than the one below it, but its weight as a whole set is also considerably lower.

And if I'm forced to choose between awful and awful-but-my-feet-aren't-guerilla-glued-to-the-♥♥♥♥♥♥'-floor, then...

that sounds like a pretty obvious choice to me.
№ 111 — Raya Lucaria Sorcerer set
    Raya Lucaria Sorcerer set
  • Head = Karolos Glintstone Crown
  • Body = Raya Lucarian Robe
  • Arms = Sorcerer Manchettes
  • Legs = Sorcerer Leggings
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 10,9
  • 🔨 Strike = 7
  • 🪓 Slash = 13,5
  • 📌 Pierce = 9
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 16,5
  • 🟥 Fire = 23,5
  • 🟨 Lightning = 11,5
  • ⬜️ Holy = 20,9
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 85
  • 🔴 Robustness = 110
  • 🟠 Focus = 135
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 73
    Poise = 17
    Weight = 13,1

This one was originally ranked 116th, but after having an educated glance at its defenses, I decided that maybe not all of it could be considered bad.

Most of it definitely can.

But there's an oddity here that I think most people miss.

The fire negation you get for its weight is surprisingly really good, sitting at around 23%.

And inspecting that its lightning negation is proportionally lower than the average, I can only assume these numbers are what they are, because it rains all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time and no one in the Academy knew how umbrellas worked.
№ 110 — Champion set
    Champion set
  • Head = Champion Headband
  • Body = Champion Pauldron
  • Arms = Champion Bracers
  • Legs = Champion Gaiters
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 13,1
  • 🔨 Strike = 17
  • 🪓 Slash = 14,1
  • 📌 Pierce = 15,4
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 15,4
  • 🟥 Fire = 18,5
  • 🟨 Lightning = 19,8
  • ⬜️ Holy = 18,5
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 116
  • 🔴 Robustness = 73
  • 🟠 Focus = 96
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 88
    Poise = 22
    Weight = 13,8

Physical negations are... okay.

17% strike defense, which isn't something you typically see on armor that's this light, but the extremely low bleed and frost resistance make it to where I would just never practically want this set over so many other options on the table.

I guess it's fine as a starting armor for the hero class, but the longer you play the game, the more you realize bleed and frost are really the only resistances that actually matter, because there seem to be multiple solutions for being afflicted with anything else.

So a high immunity really isn't too necessary in my opinion.

It is a plus, but in most situations, you might as well be counting YouTube subscribers.

So as to say, it's a vanity number and it doesn't mean ♥♥♥♥, so stop bragging about it.
№ 109 — Shaman set
    Shaman set
  • Head = Shining Horned Headband
  • Body = Shaman Furs
  • Arms =
  • Legs = Shaman Leggings
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 10,4
  • 🔨 Strike = 11,8
  • 🪓 Slash = 10,4
  • 📌 Pierce = 15,3
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 15,3
  • 🟥 Fire = 13,8
  • 🟨 Lightning = 15,3
  • ⬜️ Holy = 13
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 135
  • 🔴 Robustness = 91
  • 🟠 Focus = 116
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 77
    Poise = 18
    Weight = 11,5

And the same goes for this set too.

135 immunity is great when it matters, or if you don't have Flame Cleanse Me, or if you don't have neutralizing boluses, preserving boluses, a regen incantation, or any other means of counteracting poison DOT.

The damage negations are comparable to the first set, as you would expect, but for the two people that are interested, it also improves damage from the Ancestral Head consumable by 20%, bringing it up to a tier that isn't embarrassingly bad like its homeless cousin-in-law.
№ 108 — Chain set
    Chain set
  • Head = Chain Coif
  • Body = Chain Armor
  • Arms = Gauntlets
  • Legs = Chain Leggings
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 23,6
  • 🔨 Strike = 17,8
  • 🪓 Slash = 25,5
  • 📌 Pierce = 23,6
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 14,5
  • 🟥 Fire = 21,7
  • 🟨 Lightning = 12,5
  • ⬜️ Holy = 16,2
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 60
  • 🔴 Robustness = 100
  • 🟠 Focus = 27
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 43
    Poise = 37
    Weight = 21

The defenses are good, and the weight is heavy.

Good against fire, bad against lightning.

I could probably say more about the set, but I refuse to put any more effort into writing about it than the person did designing it.
№ 107 — Malenia set
    Malenia set
  • Head = Malenia's Winged Helm
  • Body = Malenia's Armor
  • Arms = Malenia's Gauntlet
  • Legs = Malenia's Greaves
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 23,3
  • 🔨 Strike = 17
  • 🪓 Slash = 24,3
  • 📌 Pierce = 21
    Elemental defense
  • 🟦 Magic = 14,4
  • 🟥 Fire = 17
  • 🟨 Lightning = 11,4
  • ⬜️ Holy = 18,4
    Resistance
  • 🟢 Immunity = 108
  • 🔴 Robustness = 90
  • 🟠 Focus = 36
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 36
    Poise = 37
    Weight = 20,5

Okay, so I'm fighting the urge to remind everyone for probably the ninth time that this list is not based off of fashion or visual theme by any means,
and I'm not sure if that's a testament to my paranoia of people being mad at me,
or my pessimistic assumptions regarding the average YouTube user's level of intelligence.

Or both.

Comment below which one you think it is.

The physical negations really aren't that bad, but 11% lightning negation really bothers me.

That's a pretty egregious minus for this set.

Seeing that my next destination is very likely going to be Farum Azula.

90 robustness also isn't bad, but it's not spectacular.

These are just not the stats I'd expect to see from an armor set you can't even get until the last hour of the game.

I can't believe I'm actually extending this olive branch, but if you're mad that Malenia Sets somehow ranked under this one, then imagine how I feel.

I'm the one that made the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spreadsheet.

Despite it being completely fair and reasonable if you get dissuaded by the giant cassette tape hanging off your neck, I think the elemental defenses on this, really are some of the most overlooked numbers in the game.

I'm not saying they're good.

I'm not even close to saying that, but they are pretty decent considering the set's lower weight.

These numbers are usually something you see on four-piece sets, and you still have a free space to slot in whatever armor you want.

That is a practical benefit to not having a full four.

However, that doesn't mean anything since we're only ranking the sets themselves.
№ 105 — Zamor set

Okay, again with the lightning defense.

Guys, I know armor is supposed to be made out of metal and everything, but if we can fire a volley of target tracings, using arrows, using only a single count of ammunition, don't you think we're allowed to make some exceptions?

I feel like this set should just come with a bonus.

It feels weird having five cold sorceries in the game, and the only way you can boost them is by wearing some old lady's big-ass hat.

I can't be too mean to it, because so far, it's the only complete set I've seen that actually gives you a competitive amount of robustness, but I still think the poise isn't that much for a medium weight set.

It's fine in certain environments, but you could honestly do way better.
№ 104 — Nomadic Merchant set
    Set name
  • Head = Nomadic Merchant's Chapeau

I think they really missed an opportunity here to have other merchants offer you discounted prices if you're wearing this.

It would be a niche feature that people eventually just wouldn't care about, but this is a series that dedicates an entire armor set to the fun of damaging ♥♥♥♥ by rolling into it.

Of course, it wouldn't be useful. It would just be a fun thing to have.

The weight to poise ratio is definitely on the weaker side, and there's really no standout weakness or strength when it comes to elemental and physical defense, which is just boring.

It just ends up being a set you throw on because you like looking at the pretty colors.
№ 103 — Sage set
    Sage set
  • Head = Sage Hood
  • Body = Sage Robe
  • Arms =
  • Legs = Sage Trousers
    Physical defense
  • ⚔️ Standard = 11,9

  • 🟠 Focus = 141
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 150
    Poise = 15
    Weight = 9,8

Elemental defense is very obviously the main focus here, which is a real shame because there are so many different armor options that give much higher negations, and they all give you the added bonus of not looking like a freshly abused bag of potatoes.

I'm not interested.
№ 102 — Kaiden set
    Kaiden set
  • Head = Kaiden Helm
  • Body = Kaiden Armor
  • Arms = Kaiden Gauntlets

  • 🔴 Robustness = 118
  • 🟠 Focus = 33
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 33
    Poise = 39
    Weight = 20,8

This one's just sad.

There aren't too many viable options when it comes to having a snazzy winter wilderness-themed getup, and the Kaiden set was really close to being that.

But sadly, none of its stats really incentivize it.

Even 118, robustness is still just kind of average when you take a step back and look at the entire selection.

The poise isn't bad for a medium weight set, but I would have expected that from an enemy with 18 wheeler poise anyways, so that's not really a surprise.
№ 101 — Iron set
    Iron set
  • Head = Iron Helmet

  • 🟠 Focus = 36
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 40

This set really just isn't good at anything.

If you're in the mood for a one-size-fits-all solution to the various damage types in the game, just go for the Nox monk or vulgar militia sets.

They weigh significantly less while giving you better overall defense and stat resistances.

If you aren't doing anything new, then you can at least put some effort into doing everything right.

Neither of those describe this set.

Actually a solid option against lightning, but not nearly enough to make up for all of its physical negations, and every enemy in the game can deal physical damage.

So unless you're fighting a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thunderstorm, I don't see that one extra Dex helping out anybody that gives a ♥♥♥♥.
№ 99 — Prophet set

I can't believe wearing a ripped sandbag over your head gives you better elemental negation than robes from an actual distinguished academy of magic.

The physical negations are exactly what you'd expect them to be, but let's not focus on that.

Let's focus on the fact that this set gives you 23% holy negation for barely over 10 pounds, meaning it does have a certain niche against bosses like Elden Beast and Misbegotten Crusader.

Sadly, that niche is extremely small and only helps against encounters that either deal only holy damage or are so insignificantly easy and forgettable that you already named him in your head and thought, yeah, whatever.

Go ♥♥♥♥ yourself to the one person who decided giving this set some extra bleed resistance wouldn't have been thematic.

37?
What am I supposed to do with 37 bleed resistance?

Get less paper cuts from the dissertation I'm shoving up your ass about how useless this is?

And is 156 focus supposed to be impressive or something?
№ 97 — Blue Silver set

Really not a fan of lightning and holy being its two most glaring deficiencies.

Mostly everything about it is just kind of fine, I guess.

It's nice to see robustness is finally reaching numbers that could be considered useful, but less than 15% lightning and holy damage negation is just not something I could ignore, considering how important those numbers end up becoming.

And even its physical negations seem a bit low for the weight of the entire set.
№ 96 — Lazuli Sorcerer set

  • ⚫️ Vitality = 130

You know what?
I'm honestly impressed.

I was fully ready to accept single-digit physical negations for the entire set just because it's another fancy duvet you wear over your head, but 15% strike negation really ain't bad.

And the elemental negations all seem to spread out quite evenly, unlike most others we've talked about thus far.

But the bleed resistance is asscheeks, and 8% pierce negation is a big problem.

And it still gives you as much poise as stapling a bed sheet to your ♥♥♥♥ and just wearing it as a cape.

And there are a bunch of other problems with it, but it points to where it's deserved, I guess.

It looks goofy as ♥♥♥♥, and its defenses are even goofier.

Ladies and gentlemen, you are looking at a fully decked-out four-piece set with one-digit physical negations in every single category.

I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ how good the holy negation is.

Physical damage is arguably the most important possible thing you could have on an armor set, because it's far and away the most common threat you encounter.

It takes unparalleled knowledge and a deep understanding of the arts to summon a glowing magic comet and hurl it at your foes, but everybody knows how to punch someone in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ face.

That's not a skill or a craft, that's a basic instinct in this game.

And if that isn't up to par, then I don't care how much extra magic damage my weapon skills are getting.
№ 94 — Elden Lord set

Giving 38 poise to an entire set looted from Captain Poise himself is a total clown move, a real zinger, the kind of joke you couldn't make up, yet it exists.

Proudly, unfortunately.

That would be like looting a used kitchen stove from the Winged Dragon of Ra.

It just deviates so hard from a potentially awesome theme that it's almost embarrassing.

Not even a special effect that gives you more hyper armor during casts or something.

Drip is the only thing this set gives you and I guess a little bit of robustness, but even that's getting less and less impressive.

Honestly, just wear the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hat.

Who cares about the whole rest of the set?

The hat gives you 10% more damage from cold sorceries, and since this isn't a Fashion Souls video, you don't have to care about how ridiculous it looks on top of literally any other set.

Robustness is some of the worst I've ever seen, even compared to sets similar in weight, making its point of origin being a Frost Witch a little hard to believe.

But 10% more damage is 10% more damage, and praise is praise when it's earned.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but it actually isn't complete garbage.

It is pretty close, it's currently rim-jobbing the final ring of hell, but I can't say I expected a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ damage negation on a pair of trousers worn by someone with chronic swamp ass.

I don't feel like anything on this armor set is really lying to me or trying to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me in any way.

What you see is what you get, and what you get is ass.

Ass defense, ass negation, and ass resistance, which is what some of you horny ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ need.

I keep thinking we're done with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ones, and then I just keep getting jumpscared by another one.

It's hard to believe a set with physical negations this low doesn't spark outrage on the internet, because the Page set would have absolutely deserved it.

The elemental negations are actually pretty consistently high when you factor in its weight, but the other stats are so far under the benchmark that the entire set is brought down massively in quality by it.

Whatever somewhat decent defenses it has against a specific type of damage is completely overshadowed by something much worse.

Whatever definition of the word poise FromSoft is operating under, I think they may have gotten from an actual AI.

This isn't some wimpy-ass two-ply toilet paper robe you're wearing here.
This is a full set of armor.

Over 25 pounds for the whole set, and all you can give me is 40 poise?

Are actual Bloodhound knights this easy to flinch in real combat?

I'm not sure, since they usually don't stay alive long enough for me to properly test, but they're big enough to be an everjail boss, so I'd like to imagine it takes some effort.

Also, continuing to stick with the theme of the metal surfaces having ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lightning defense, I see.

There's really nothing good here, just wear this for cosplay purposes.

So, I got really curious why the Mausoleum Soldier and Knight sets fell so far below the other counterparts, and when I finally realized it through sheer common sense, I felt like the stupidest man on the planet.

It's because they don't have head pieces.

Because they don't have heads.
None of them have heads.

This kinda results in all the Mausoleum sets having noticeably lower stats across the board than the others, including the Foot Soldier set.

I didn't even know Helmet Soldier set was a good set, so I took a look.

Not very cool, but it's really nice.

I don't want to contribute that much to stats, but when it's only a three-piece, you can really feel the difference.

No, giving your character this set and naming him Dismas doesn't make you funny.

I've already seen hundreds of characters with that exact gimmick.

I've probably made a couple of them.

I didn't expect much from this, and, well, it didn't disappoint.

I mean that as literally as possible.

If you didn't see this set and immediately expect the poise of a hand sandwich, then I don't know what I can do for you.

I think this set has a pretty interesting effect.

It's basically a less inconvenient Shabriri's Woe, where instead of re-slotting another talisman, you have to take your shirt off.

That joke would have been funny had it not been for the fact that the aggro effect is actually consigned to the helmet, you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scholar, you.

It doesn't come with any gauntlets, sadly meaning it's only a three-piece set, which isn't the largest blow to defenses, if I'm being honest, since gauntlets usually have the lowest stats of the four.

But I do think it's funny that the reasoning for why the helmet triggers such determined anger in just about everything you fight is because of the snakes, which resemble sin.

As though the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ goats in Dragonbarrow can sniff out your affronts to humanity or something.

The poise on this is just painfully bad.

41 poise for a nearly 23-pound set, which is barely better than the Bloodhound set.

But by such a tiny margin that it's not even worth bringing up, let alone bragging about.

There's also just about no metal on this set, except I guess the chest piece and the smackable dome of the altered helmet is enough to justify 13% lightning negation.

Also pretty sure this is the highest robustness we've seen on an armor set so far, which totals out to 133.

I lied, the Zamor set has 147.

That wasn't me trying to make a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke, I literally just forgot and had to double check.
I have no excuse.

Not even your own character wants to be recognized with this ♥♥♥♥ on.

Unless I specifically bring it up and dedicate an entire sentence to bragging about it, from this point on, just assume lightning defense is ♥♥♥♥.

Just assume it outright.

The physical defenses are pretty on par with what the average is for medium weight sets.

But the elemental negations are really scattered and arbitrary for like, no reason.

Honestly, I just wanted to make that one joke about your character being too ashamed to show their face.

This paragraph's over now.

Take that dragon boner off your head, son, and get yourself an armor with some real cinderblock defense.

The description says it's made out of black iron and dragon spoils, so how the ♥♥♥♥ is this weak to slash damage?

If YouTube finds anything to be a ♥♥♥♥♥ about in this video, it's going to be this shot right here.

So if it gets reuploaded for some reason, those of you watching right now are going to know exactly why. It's a four piece that needs effort to climb over the 10% mark in standard physical negation.

But honestly, those elemental defenses are looking pretty damn sharp for less than 10 pounds.

Great lightning and holy negation sitting at 24 and 26 respectively, and magic and fire defense are pretty close to it as well.

Making it a solid set for conquering element heavy bosses like fire giant and Loretta.

Poise is defined by Merriam-Webster's dictionary as
to hold supported or suspended without motion in a steady position.

Just making sure we're on the same page here, FromSoft.

Heavier armors by this logic and using this definition would in fact indicate a higher level of poise.

So you tell me why I keep wanting to have this discussion with you.

You tell me why I'm willing to have 25 pounds of fat ass on my chest and all I'm getting is 42 poise.

Also, the use of the word poise, according to Google, fell way off into the 1950s before it started regaining popularity in the early 2000s.

And in 2019, it's almost to the same level that it was before, and I just thought that was really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ funny.

Aside from looking like someone just dug it out of the Leyndell dumpsters, the royal remains set has suboptimal stats that don't really outweigh the disadvantage of its weight.

It's been two years and there hasn't been an Elden Ring version of that video.

So I'm just kindly reminding everyone that we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Three more intelligence is quite a large benefit.

But is it enough to outweigh the 7% pierce negation and 58% robustness?

Expectedly, the elemental defenses are pretty high too.

Real shame too, cause this set easily has my favorite visual theme of all the knight drips.

I don't know why, but the death bird feathers and the two towel racks hanging over the shoulders really get something burning inside of me.

And I'm not talking about my chlamydia.

17.5% lightning negation for the whole set.

And yes, I'm bringing that up because I actually consider that a positive.

Just about this whole set is made of polished steel.

I guess this doesn't really matter since it's a given you're gonna be swapping armors anyways.

But this is the set for the starter class with the highest Arcane.

And yet it only has 74 robustness.

Something else that doesn't matter on this set, because no sane individual would ever wear this for its poise benefits, is the poise to weight ratio of 1.7.

And generally, anything under 2 is considered not good.

I don't know, I figured I'd just start peppering in little factoids here and there because the ol' elemental negations are surprisingly good line is probably on the verge of getting stuck in everyone's heads.

For a little over 10 pounds, the physical defenses aren't bad.

And by not bad, I mean standard defense, which is ever so slightly past 10%.

Which, on an outfit made entirely of pillowcases and Etsy embroidery, honestly isn't too bad.

Doesn't mean you're better off going for plenty of other sets, but ♥♥♥♥ it, I'm feeling positive today, I guess.

It looks angelic.

If the armor set had a ♥♥♥♥, I'd probably suck it.

I'm strictly talking about the stats.

And forgive the brutal honesty when I say, maybe if the set did in fact focus a little less on making the character look like they're sticking their head through a doily and more on real defense, maybe the set could have actually broken past 51 poise.

And the closer we get to the top half of the list, the more that benchmark is gonna matter.

I was hoping for a little more than 142 immunity on a set practically covered in turbo syphilis, but it is technically above the average amount, so shut my damn mouth, I guess.

The aggro effect carries over to the rotten variant as well, and the stat resistances are all slightly higher across the board.

What's especially impressive is this is a three-piece set with more immunity than some four-pieces.

I guess you can throw on some random bandages or bracelets or something.

Zamor bracelets are a pretty nice fit because of their high robustness, but there's only so much advice someone can give you until you finally have to just admit that you're better off going with another set.

♥♥♥♥ physical, great elemental.

One of its most stand-out numbers being slash negation, which is 13.3 for the total set, which is abnormally good for a set made of tissue paper.

If you're not fighting anything with pierce damage or bleed status, you're good.

Not really crazy about 19 poise for the entire set, and I'm really drawing a blank at fire negation being its lowest elemental defense.

But I guess that is kind of in line with what you'd expect wearing a suit made out of the dead skin of God's upper lip.

We're almost there guys.

We're almost to an armor set that's actually competent, but we're just not quite there yet.

This set almost had something going for itself here.

The physical negations are great for a set in its weight class without compromising too much on elemental defense.

Robustness is pretty much the average, but remember when I said not having 51 poise was going to start becoming very important soon?

13% lightning negation?
Check.

Only 108 on its highest stat resistance?
Check.

All the most easily recognizable red flags that signal a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ set of armor.

But there is a diamond in this rough.

The Utility of Silent Footsteps.

That's not a joke, I actually think that's a valuable enough utility to bring this set all the way into, I'd say, low C tier.

Imagine being a ranged build that never needs Assassin's Approach.

I'm telling you to imagine it because you'll never see it, because you find this ♥♥♥♥ in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ snowfields.

Even still, the permanent benefit of feeling like all the enemies in the game are being powered by a dial-up internet connection is too good to ignore, especially when just not fighting ♥♥♥♥ becomes an increasingly preferred option as you approach later parts of the game.

I feel as though I'm partly responsible for the nosedive aberrant sorceries took in popularity three months after the game came out.

Because in reality, these two spells have been given some pretty nice buffs over the years to the point where my only current standing criticism is just that there aren't more of them.

You know what?
It ain't bad.

I like the fire negation.
I like the robustness.
Kinda.

Not really.

But we're still tickling the balls of 51 poise, and the more frequently we continue missing that mark while steadily rocketing upwards in weight, the less patient I'm gonna start getting.

I'm not saying anything's gonna happen when I get there.

I'm not gonna wake up tomorrow with a hemorrhage or something.

I'm just gonna get slightly mad at everything, I guess.

The War Surgeon getup is a wonderful example of a set being worth more than the sum of its defenses.

On top of being able to cosplay what could very well be Borderlands 2's approximation of what passes for a combat medic, you also get a tiny little pocket version of the Blood Exaltation Talisman.

It's only a 10% bonus, but it still pulls its weight.

Normally, I'd look at a set with 29 poise and not even give it a courtesy double-take because I didn't want to put a dent in its confidence.

And I still wouldn't consider this a genuinely good set, even with the buff.

But it's still enough to make me look twice, before ignoring it and wearing something else.

Isn't this supposed to be made out of, like, pretty thick plating, since their job is to literally fight and kill omens?

Why does it feel like I just duct-taped a couple IKEA rugs to my body?

I spent the first two playthroughs not even realizing this was a full four-piece, because the mask is looted off of a completely different Omenkiller.

Dude was probably just enjoying a long weekend vacation or something.

I guess the working conditions for these guys aren't exactly clean and tidy, since...

159 immunity is the highest on any set we've seen thus far.

And I did say I would make a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥' deal about a set with actually good lightning defense, so...

Okay, so before getting into the Soldier sets, let's all just take a minute to vent some anger over the fact that all of the Soldier sets somehow ranked higher than the Malenia set, Elden Lord set, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Blackknife.

Which sounds like something at least two of you would take personally.

We're still breathing heavily on the 51 poise benchmark, like we're trying to fog up a window so we can make funny drawings on it.

So if the physical negations seem high, it's only because the weight is almost 25 pounds for the total set.

And that's just something that's not gonna make the cut.

Genuinely one of the most visually repulsive armor sets I've ever had to look at.

And if anyone has a different opinion, they're lying to themselves because they think it's funny.

Even people who love this set think it's ugly, yet they learn to tolerate it.

Especially seeing how it's the highest immunity set in the game at 243!

Focus and Vitality are also extremely high.

This means that I have to do my least favorite thing ever.

Which is to admit that there is a strong niche with this set, while also viscerally hating it.

And with that out of the way, I'm already tired of this paragraph.

The weight to poise ratio is cracked.

And by cracked, I mean fundamentally flawed.

As in, not good.

It's so cracked that it challenges the meaning of modern vernacular.

But those elemental negations have me behaving badly.

Also, once again, gonna just drive this home really quick, cause I'm mad about it, and I think everyone else should be too.

But what in the holy pope of Saint ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was the point of giving us so many variants of the Perfumer set, and have a bonus to the actual items relegated to a single talisman?

It wouldn't have even had to be a damage increase.

You could have lowered the FP, you could have slapped the Old Lord talisman effect on it.

Like, there was plenty of space for an operation here.

It's fun to do things in a game that you couldn't in actual life.

Like jump seven feet in the air, and end the lives of living organisms.

And if the joy of doing both in one fluid motion just so happens to be shared amongst those who would try to light an ice cube on fire, then so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ what.

The Raptor set is still good. It's good enough.

The physical defenses don't make you feel like you're using a suit of porcelain armor, and the elemental negations are surprisingly good as well.

I'll apologize later when I remember to give a ♥♥♥♥, but I just don't know how we're running into soldier sets on the top half of the list.

Defense-wise, these are just way too good.

If not reaching 51 poise is the only negative bullet point I can come up with, then I can't in good conscience say we are in a particularly dangerous spot here.

It's just a bit of a surprise, is all.

I scrape Godrick Soldier sets off the rim of my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ toilet bowl every weekend, only to find out the physical negations are actually damn good.

Honestly, the effect kind of ruins the set.

Bit of a shame too, because the Azur and Lusat sets have some of the strongest elemental negations in the game.

If sorceries were game development firms, primeval sorceries would be the ones laying off hundreds of employees and then teasing the idea of putting ads for monster energy or some ♥♥♥♥ into all their titles.

And the saddest part is thinking that's an original ♥♥♥♥♥♥' idea.

Giving a damage boost effect to maybe six spells at most, six inconveniently niche spells at that, is not worth every single spell I cast consuming 15% more FP (i lied there are literally just 3 lmao).

If you like the Azur and Lusat sets, but think their passive buffs are more like active threats, then go with the Battlemage set instead.

It offers stats that are comparable to the two Grandmaster sets, and its only benefit is a straightforward stat increase.

This one surprised me...
a little.

I wasn't expecting a starter set to make it this far up the list.

If you can get past its Ash Cheeks adjacent Holy negation, the Blue Cloth is a well-rounded enough solution to any problems you may have.

Think of it as the Kevlar vest of this universe.

It'll protect you against whatever you aren't stupid enough to stand directly in front of.

Every negation and resistance it has is going to have to fight to be considered, amongst other options, because this set, if anything else, is still unapologetically boring.

But, at least it does its job.

Nope, still not 51 poise.

Alright, I'm getting impatient.

Here it is, it's happening.

Hoslow's armor set excels in the fashion department.

And this unfortunately means it must be balanced by an egregiously large weight total with only 48 poise, and even less if you're wearing the mask.

Some of the physical negations are decent for its weight class, but the late-game location encourages you to ignore so many of its potential perks that robustness ends up being its only glaring strength at 144.

And that really sucks, considering this is the first metallic armor set on this list with over 20% lightning negation.

Roughly every problem outlined by the Hoslow set, the Haligtree Knight set suffers from just as much, albeit just a tiny sliver less so because its helmet gives you an extra 2 Faith, which I personally think is the most useful stat bonus when it comes to flat increases and such, just because of the wide range of low Faith utility incantations you can take advantage of.

The poise ratio is just about identical to the Hoslow set, which is a running theme for Haligtree themed armor sets.

It might just be because it's in-game, but for whatever reason, Haligtree equipment is always a good couple pounds heavier than the rest of its ilk.

This one's interesting.

It has some of the highest negations available, while also suffering from some of the most insultingly undignified setbacks you can possibly find.

50 poise on a 27 pound armor set.

That's pretty embarrassing. I'm not gonna lie, that's pretty hard to defend.

Now let's talk about why this is number 46 before I start getting tomatoes thrown at me.

28% slash negation is flat out insane. Like, this just shouldn't be on this set, but it is.

The fire negation is also uncommonly good.

Not quite good enough to dedicate an entire sentence to sucking its ♥♥♥♥ or anything, but it's worth pointing out.

Otherwise, 50 poise for 27 pounds is just not worth taking seriously.

Jesus hog-slopping, ♥♥♥♥-shoveling Christ.

We finally have a 51 poise set, and everything else is so below par that it barely even matters.

55 Vitality, 13% lightning negation?

Come on, man, I thought we were done with this ♥♥♥♥.

The robustness is pretty comfortably above the average, I guess, but we're about two-thirds of the way through the video now, and we're just now starting to manage some decent poise with physical negations barely higher than the Soldier sets.

So forgive me if I'm being a tad pessimistic here.

And it's still over 25 pounds, so you're not exactly moving like the wind here.

You know what?
It ain't bad.

Physical negations are actually pretty nice for its weight, and the elemental negations are even better.

I'm really close to questioning why it didn't give a boost to Night Sorceries, but with Night Comet being in the spot it's been for the past 18 months, I also know exactly where that discussion would have ended up.

So I think I'm just gonna stick with the ol' it's good enough, and just move on.

What?
I honestly just don't know with this one.

The poise is awful.

You probably already could have guessed that.

But your opinion on this set is ultimately going to depend on whether or not you use the Full Bloom chest, and how frequently you heal with flasks and not incantations.

So this is one of those sets that really could just fall anywhere, but I don't think a single person can tell me with a straight face that negative 2% fire negation on the Full Bloom chest isn't a little too excessive of a punishment.

In the brief span of time between when I first discovered this set and when I decided to ignore it completely for the rest of my time on this Earth, the stats did somewhat impress me for an 11-pound set.

I don't think you need to be a history expert to make the conclusion that anything without armor plating or some sort of rigid material had poo-poo physical defense.

Elemental negations are, of course, some of the highest, as every single one with the measure above 25%.

I obviously wish the poise was a little better, but when you're using a dress made of rolls of used toilet paper, that's probably not a first priority.
№ 41 — Astrologer set
    Astrologer set

Across the board, one of the better starter sets.

13 pounds and not a single physical negation falls below 10%. And yes, that is an accomplishment, unfortunately.

It fondles the balls of the 27% benchmark on magic negation, but just not quite making it there.

But that's still impressive enough for me.

And having this set from the start gives you a nice buffer heading in to the second legacy area.

Focus and Vitality are both really nice.

Wahoo, who gives a ♥♥♥♥.

Next.

Okay, so aren't knights supposed to be like god-fearing crusaders or something?

I mean, the definition obviously changes from culture to culture.

But I don't think any historically accurate definition of a knight would have holy defense as its weakest negation.

Not even the stat resistances are really that outstanding.

Like, 120 robustness is just not impressive anymore.

Like, it's just not.

I dig the 26% slash and pierce negation.

And after ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the promised land of 51 poise constantly being a distant pipe dream, I'm honestly just glad we're finally here.

30 pounds for 50 poise.

Nope, not even gonna tell you anything about the negations.

What I just said right there should be all anyone needs to know.

It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suit of metal armor.

You tell me what you think the stats are.

With a weight to poise ratio this bad, it should feel lucky my cynical ass didn't toss it somewhere in the 50s.
№ 38 — Confessor set

  • 🟠 Focus = 116
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 33
    Poise = 33
    Weight = 19,2

This set is the proud owner of some of the most well-rounded stat resistances I've ever seen.

Not a single one below a hundred, which is quite convenient. I can't hate it too much.

It's just a nice, broadly developed set of threads that don't really have a particular weakness.

Everything is just good enough.

If this is your starter class, you're eventually gonna find the Confessor set pretty difficult to let go of.

Even if you're after something with poise that doesn't fold and crumble like a stack of office paper, the lower weight is convenient enough to fall in love with it pretty easily.

It's not the best, but I understand why people like it.
№ 37 — Redmane Knight set
    Redmane Knight set
  • Head = Redmane Knight Helm
  • Body = Redmane Knight Armor

  • 🔴 Robustness = 130
  • 🟠 Focus = 57
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 59
    Poise = 51
    Weight = 28,1

Farming for a full set of these means you're probably gonna go through a volatile phase in your life where you think the very code of the game is constructed to give you the worst chances possible.

There are some features I really like about the Redmane set, and a few other things that I tend to scoff at. 51 poise is starting to become more and more normalized, so I'm probably just gonna stop mentioning it, unless it's important or I feel like it.

For whatever reason, it just has consistently lower physical negations than the other Knight sets, and the fact that they're barely 1-2% off makes it feel even more out of place.

Almost purposeful.

And I'm just not sure what could've led to that decision.

Especially since the Redmaynes were probably the most combat-oriented of the six.
№ 36 — Night Maiden set
    Night Maiden set
  • Head = Night Maiden Twin Crown
  • Body = Night Maiden Armor

  • 🔴 Robustness = 92
  • 🟠 Focus = 123
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 123
    Poise = 34
    Weight = 19,3

There isn't a lot about this set that's gonna justify the painstakingly prolonged process of finding all the pieces.

And even then, if you're that dedicated to farming it, it's just because you want the cat ears.

But once you shave your asymmetrically grown Hugh Jackman-ass mutton chops after spending days farming for the set, you might as well try to see what it's about.

It's another well-rounded set that doesn't really have a particular field it excels in, but 23% lightning negation is 23 lightning ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ negation.

And in a universe where that's a harder find than the full set itself, it's at least worth checking out.

No commenter, I don't think it's funny that the further I go up the list, the coincidentally uglier the armor sets start getting.

I don't think that ♥♥♥♥'s funny at all. I think I want blood on my hands.

I do, however, think it's hilarious that a one-to-one detailing of the Pillsbury Doughboy cosplay minus the weird-ass hat only weighs 12 pounds.

20% more damage out of Noble presence is just a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deal.

It's 20% more damage out of anything in this game is a big enough deal to at least pay attention to.

And you know what?

The elemental negations are good.
Like, they're really good.

27 holy negation is not insignificant.

The only trade-off is looking like someone inflated a balloon animal inside a water bottle.

And in this game, there are just higher prices to pay.

Like, I'm just saying.

Well, I got five paragraphs down the script before realizing I completely just skimmed these over.

Just flat-out forgot to even write anything about them.

So instead of acting like I have something interesting to say about each set, I'm just gonna quickly brush over why it feels like their individual stats were determined by a chimpanzee trying to ♥♥♥♥ a calculator.

It genuinely feels like they took four bags of deli meat, labeled them each after a different area, and just weighed them and then plugged in the defense numbers.

The Cuckoo set has the highest magic negation, but the Godrick set is really good against fire for some reason.

The Cuckoo set has 77 immunity, while all the others have 84.

Leyndell set has one of the worst holy negations, despite it literally originating from the royal capital.

Both the Godrick and Gelmir sets have 21.7% holy negation, even though they couldn't be more thematically separate.

And the various physical negations seem different enough to feel purposeful and deliberate, but probably have no significance whatsoever.

And what's weird is all of them still fall barely within 1% total negation of each other, so it's not like it even matters.

A set that impresses absolutely no one in the fashion department, and knows it doesn't need to.

The chest piece is a drab,
rusted curtain with some frills on it,

the gloves are just short leather gloves that you could probably find in your dad's garage,

the helmet is whatever the ♥♥♥♥ that is,

the immunity climbs up all the way to 162,

every single elemental negation reaches past 20%,

and it's got some impressive damage negations for a set that's only 18 and a half pounds.

But if I'm being completely truthful, the further you venture into the game with this set, the more in the way that 84 robustness starts to feel.
№ 29 — Nox Swordstress set
    Nox Swordstress set

The Swordstress has slightly albeit consistently better negations than the two other Nox themed sets, and actually now that I think about it, the same could be said for pretty much all of its stats.

35 poise versus the Night Maiden's 34 and Nox Monk's 33, its physical negations are barely 1% higher in total, and it has the highest lightning negation without seeming to compromise on anything else, making it a marginally better option than the other two in my opinion.

But just marginally.

Like, the Mausoleum sets just don't have a helmet, and that was apparently enough to drive half the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ list in between them and the other five, so we're dealing with a lot of specifics here.

Probably the greatest starter set in the game.

It's one of the tankiest medium weight sets you ever find, almost 24% lightning defense, and its lowest stat resistance for once in the entire video finally manages to land on something nobody gives a brick of ♥♥♥♥ about, which is focus.

It's really just another well-rounded set, but everything about it feels slightly more well-rounded than other starters in the selection.

A dependable and comfortable set of threads, even if you would get better poise from a set made of super absorbent diapers.
№ 27 — Briar set

Dodging and damaging at the same time is just a utility that constantly gets underestimated.

And it's only 79 flat damage if you're wearing the full set.

As in, before defense gets calculated.

But I'm gonna be honest, if that ♥♥♥♥ did one single point of damage, it would still be underrated just because of how interruptable normal enemies start to feel in combat.

Rolling into normal ass mobs and watching them just not be able to do anything about it is the kind of tactical bullshittery that Sun Tzu would have written about.

It gives the set some synergy with Fire's Deadly Sin, and it can be buffed just like any other damage source.

I knew I said it would be pretty difficult for sets with less than 51 poise to stand out, but when that's literally the only negative thing I have to say about it, it's probably not the worst set in the world, honestly.
№ 26 — Maliketh set
    Malikeith set

Might be a little...
a little too heavy for that lightning negation, but getting this armor means Farum Azula is efficiently a distant memory, so who gives a ♥♥♥♥.

Even 120 Vitality is pretty far beneath what I thought I'd get from the Gatekeeper of Death himself.

Like imagine you kill Thanatos in the Greek mythos and his robes just prevent you from getting a cold.

25% holy negation is pretty nice, though.

And 51 poise makes the fight with Godfrey and Radagon a whole lot less painful.

I kinda wish it gave me a little more lightning negation, but I don't wanna sound like an ungrateful ♥♥♥♥♥.
№ 25 — Night's Cavalry set
    Night's Cavalry set

Okay, I'm really this close to saying someone just needs to make a Google Doc that keeps track of how science works in this game.

Night's Cavalrymen are supposed to be weak to lightning.

It's something you learn pretty early into the game.

But this full-ass set of black iron armor gives me more lightning negation than most other non-conductive sets.

Why am I getting almost 22 lightning defense with this set?

What lore am I missing here?

Just about everything else here is directly comparable with the Malekith armor, but most of the stats seem to either barely edge past Malekith or are pretty much identical.
№ 24 — Preceptor set
    Preceptor set

Why did this rank higher than Malekith?

HOW did this rank higher than Malekith?

These defenses are just not what I was expecting from an old lady's nightgown.

Whoever Miriam was, she must have invoked the ire of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Avatar to have all four elemental defenses this high.

The hat also gives you three extra mind to work with, and depending on where you're at in relation to the game's soft caps, that can be a pretty damn good chunk of FP.

And the only trade-off is like 9% of your max stamina.

And if you're a caster, that's something you tend to live without anyway, so...
№ 23 — White Reed set
    White Reed set
  • Head = Okina Mask
  • Body = White Reed Armor

24 lightning negation and not a single resistance below 100, and it's stylish as ♥♥♥♥, and the Okina mask increases Dex by 3 but decreases Focus by 44, which basically does nothing.

It is weird that a set that looks less visually armored offers better defenses than the Land of Reed set, but I think a much bigger surprise here would just be to point out that this set somehow got surpassed by these next few here.

Guys, I promise I don't know what the ♥♥♥♥ happened here, but I'm looking at the resistances on some of these, and I don't think this was a fluke.

The status resistances on each of these sets are remarkably strong, with robustness being the weakest link at 99.

But to me, that's not even what's most impressive.

When it comes to physical negation, a 19-pound set will usually have anywhere between 70 to 75 total percent if you total everything up.

And yes, I know you aren't supposed to just add the totals together like this because they stack multiplicatively, but I'm just doing this to make a point.

This is just for comparison's sake.

The Foot Soldier sets consistently break 80 physical negation with an average total elemental negation percentage of around 96 to 97.

That ♥♥♥♥ is record-breaking levels of stupid.

They could air The Conjuring on Comedy ♥♥♥♥♥♥' Central and it wouldn't be as bag-over-the-head stupid as these numbers right here.

For reference, the most recent set we've ranked with a higher total elemental defense is the Astrologer set with 103 in total.

And that ♥♥♥♥ had 47 physical negation.

I don't think I know how to properly explain that this much physical and elemental defense in a single set is freakishly uncommon.

The Foot Soldier sets as a whole are just uncomfortably good for, like, no reason.

They make up a subclass that ends up being this weird halfway mark between heavier armors with great physical negations and lighter robes with an elemental focus.

If you're venturing into unfamiliar territory where you have no idea what could possibly threaten you, just wear one of these.

You'll have all your bases covered.

Writing this script is starting to make me genuinely upset.

If you don't mind constantly banging your head on the tops of door frames when you enter a room, the Royal Knight has the highest physical negation of every set we've looked out thus far.

Totalling out at a giant toppling 125.

Slash and Pierce are 33 and 32% respectively, and 159 robustness, which I'm also pretty confident is the highest thus far.

Reserved specifically for those who don't like getting so much as a stubbed toe when wrestling with fire-bending giants.

A nice feature had this set not been fitted for a literal giant because this ♥♥♥♥♥ weighs 37 pounds.

60 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ poise on a furry set.

That's somebody's dream right there.

There aren't too many negative bullet points on this one, setting aside its weight of 33 pounds, of course.

I think this one's a little difficult because there are certain pieces that shine far above the competition and other pieces that are just flat out bad, considering their weight.

Every single negation on the chest piece is slightly above its own weight, which is usually a pretty strong indication of a good piece of armor.

But the gauntlets and greaves are just none of that ♥♥♥♥.

Then again, you probably heard 60 poise and just dumped everything else that I'm saying here, so all you know is that it's a good set.
№ 15 — Bull-Goat set
    Bull-Goat set
  • Head = Bull-Goat Helm
  • Body = Bull-Goat Armor
  • Arms = Bull-Goat Gauntlets
  • Legs = Bull-Goat Greaves

  • 🔴 Robustness = 197
  • 🟠 Focus = 110
  • ⚫️ Vitality 130=
    Poise = 100
    Weight = 63

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually do have some negatives here.

Some of the elemental negations, particularly holy negation, is unreasonably low compared to everything else.

I also feel like 35% on slash negation could afford to be an inch higher due to the visual theme of having literal horns garishly jutting from the player's stomach, which would fittingly make slash-type weapons really inconvenient against this armor.

And the poise is obviously pretty massive, but the absurd weight of 63 pounds ironically gives it one of the worst poise-to-weight ratios in the game.

Literally everything else about it is outstanding.

Like, it's number 15 for a reason.

I just feel like some people might be looking for me to put this at number 1 or 2, and it's just not that good, honestly.
№ 14 — Cleanrot set

I like this set because farming for it is really never as bad as people actually think it is.

The scarcity of clean rot knights that are in the game, and the 3% drop rate for each armor piece sounds like a chore, and I guess it kind of is, but clean rot knights are some of the easiest enemies to get to, since so many sites of grace like Inner Aeonia, the Prayer Room, and those in the Shaded Castle all give you fast and easy access to this type of enemy.

The stats are also better than Malenia's set in every single regard, its standout feature being 33.5% pierce negation, so if you don't mind lugging around 36 pounds of raw testosterone, this is easily one of the best sets to farm for.
№ 13 — Malformed Dragon set
    Malformed Dragon set

The first time I brought up that armors get uglier the better they get, it was a humorous observation.

The second time I said it, it was a dead joke with a bitter taste of truth behind it.

Now, it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ political campaign.

This ♥♥♥♥ just needs to stop.

Sure, it might be the heaviest option thus far, but lightning and bleed buildup both become mere afterthoughts, bumps on the road to your inevitable success when wearing this set.

No ancient dragon will ever be able to bring you down.

And I can't even say it isn't useful in the area you get it, because you can very easily just kill this goober, loot his armor, and then go fight Placidusax with it.

Even if the weight load leaves barely enough room for a short sword, and a toothpick.
№ 12 — Scaled set
    Scaled set
  • Head = Scaled Helm

This set is my own personal ol' reliable.

It'll handle anything you throw at it incredibly well.

The elemental negations never go below 25% on a single type of damage, physical or elemental.

And as a convenient bonus, the scaled greaves are just plain enough to fit with any cosplay theme you want.

With 71 poise and almost 200 robustness in total, this is the 60s dodge charger of armor sets.

Run ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ off the road and look sexy as hell while doing it.

  • ⚫️ Vitality = 91
    Poise = 72
    Weight = 41,6

Considering its near identical stats to the bull goat set and its ease of obtainability, the beast champion set is the single most accessible choice for any heavyweight build.

41 and a half pounds is...
it's a lot.

Definitely way too much when you first find it.

But much like your dad's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ graphic jackets and concert tees, it's something you eventually grow into.

The physical negations on this are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid.

Like they just are.

And the chest and greaves by themselves already give you more than 51 poise, meaning you can trade out that pustule looking head and get a real man's helmet like the kaiden helm.
№ 10 — General Radahn set
    General Radahn set

Almost an exact copy of the beast champion set when it comes to stats, weight, and even poise.

There's almost no reason to waste minutes of your life agonizing over this choice like you're trying to buy a house, because when it comes to these two, the drip is really the only thing that matters.

Because that's the only thing that's different.

I guess the extra 20 robustness might help out a little bit in situations that call for it, but that's me really squinting hard for comparisons.
№ 9 — Banished Knight set
    Banished Knight set

  • 🟠 Focus = 91
  • ⚫️ Vitality = 160
    Poise = 72
    Weight = 41,6

The stats and negations are a good rival to the radon and beast champion sets, and everything else about it is so easily comparable that the only two reasons this ended up being slightly higher than the other two is that it's drippy,

it's easily farmable in an in-game location, and I said drip didn't matter on this list, and that's still not a lie, technically,

but when drip is the only point of logical comparison between two sets, I might as well just make it easier on myself.
№ 8 — Lionel's set

Even though it's number 8, the Lionel set is probably the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of the oversized armor sets, simply for the obvious and unmistakable reason that it is heavy.

Don't get me wrong, 86 poise is pretty insane, and I do not dismiss 37 pierce negation and 29 fire negation without careful and meticulous consideration, but this black iron tub of ♥♥♥♥ weighs over 50 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pounds.

Can you imagine the kind of person it would take to even put this on, let alone wear it?

You could walk around in your house with a couple minutes with this on, and it'd be like going to the gym.
№ 7 — Veteran's set

This set is synonymous with the ever-present cult of sweaties in PvP who only pay attention to how much poise a set of armor gives you, and then uses that single metric to explain to people why it's the greatest set like Pepe ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Sylvia.

And I'm willing to give those people an olive branch because that is a pretty important metric, and the veteran set is a pretty amazing set.

Denying these two objective facts of life is fruitless and not constructive, don't get me wrong.

But if 45 pounds for a set of armor is too much for someone, we need to just let it be too much. Weapons also exist.

And some weapons differ vastly in their own attack power to weight ratio that also need to be considered when wearing such a heavy set.

But unfortunately, I didn't make a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spreadsheet for that, so I guess we're just in the dark on that one.

Honestly?
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wow.

Every single stat on this is way too impressive for a set that's barely above 20 pounds.

It's one of the only sets with a physical negation this amazing that doesn't compromise on elemental negation.

And the stat resistances are just unlike anything you've ever seen.

You cannot talk about the stats on this set without sounding like you're trying to get a car off the lot.

And when someone asks about its poise and why it doesn't reach 51 even with the Bullgoat Talisman, you can employ the same tactics actual car dealers do, which is to tell them to ignore it and that they're stupid for bringing up such sacrilegious, asinine facts.

37% fire negation I think might be the single most impressive elemental defense, on any armor set in the whole game.

Like, that ♥♥♥♥ is ruthlessly good.

If I were a real character in the game itself, I wouldn't give a ♥♥♥♥ how much McDonald's I had to eat, or how many of my arteries I had to completely block off, just to match the physical build required to fit in this armor.

My ass is going right in that ♥♥♥♥ and it's not coming out.

Also, the highest total elemental negation of any set in the game.

So, that's pretty fun.

All the defense and stat resistance of the Malformed Dragon set, without the debilitating expense of looking like you got pressed inside a giant waffle maker.

It's a guaranteed drop from an enemy that's considerably earlier into the journey.

It offers a special damage bonus of up to 17% on three Crucible incantations, which might be some of the game's most overlooked spells.

And 27.6 holy negation sets you up perfectly for in-game material.

It's a wonderful option for any character, but Faith builds can really bring out some of its best talents.

Decently early location, amazing fire and holy defense, poised to weight ratio that outperforms even the Veteran set

Almost 36% negation for Standard and Slash, two of the most common physical damage types.

It is, for all intents and purposes, a sturdier and statistically better Crucible Knight set.

However, this is where you can potentially add some nuance to the number 1 slot here.

Because that's 17% damage bonus for Crucible incantations is not insignificant at all.

On a certain build that lends itself to these incantations, I would likely give the first and second place slots to the two Crucible Knight sets.

But general well-rounded defense is going to be the most important thing to pay attention to in any other context without taking the nuance of building a character into account.

And in that regard, there's just no competition.

The Tree Sentinel set is far and away the best option.

The pharagraph: "So instead of acting like I have something interesting to say about each set, I'm just gonna quickly brush over why it feels like their individual stats were determined by a chimpanzee trying to ♥♥♥♥ a calculator." made me laugh my brains out so hard.

I just have to mention that by altering the Royal Knight armor, taking the goofy frills off, the armor's poise actually increases . The armor is still terrible, and looks terrible, but the devs at least recognize that the silly bits of cloth sticking out everywhere are actively detrimental.
