Description
The 3000 Series (3000系) is a limited express type EMU operated by Keihan Electric Railway.

Entering service in conjunction with the Nakanoshima Line's opening in 2008, the 3000 series was produced for express trains running directly from Kyoto onto the new line. It was given the nickname "Comfort Saloon" and front car was given a crescent moon motif. Painted with navy blue and white separated by a silver stripe, the design is inspired by Osaka's image as a large coastal port, mixed with Kyoto's traditionality. Compared to the 8000 series, the width of seats were increased for both cross seats and long seats. A preliminary survey found a significant number of requests from female passengers for single seats, and the layout was thus changed from 2+2 to 2+1 for cross seats. This almost doubled the width of the aisle, although as a consequence the total number of seats were reduced. At introduction, the 3000 series primarily served rapid express and commuter express trains originating/terminating in Nakanoshima Station, in addition to some limited express trains at peak times. Throughout it's service history it was gradually assigned more and more limited express runs in comparison to other service levels. 2021 would see the introduction of all-reserved premium cars, which replaced one standard car per set. Concurrently, all 3000 series sets became exclusively used for limited express, and operations on the Nakanoshima Line ended. The surplus cars were subsequently converted and integrated into the 13000 series. There are a total of 6 sets in operation, totalling 54 cars including 6 now registered as 13000 series. Keihan has announced plans to swap out an additional standard car for a premium car due to popularity of the service, scheduled for 2025.
