Description
The 7000 Series (7000系) is a single car EMU operated by JR Shikoku.

Introduced with the electrification of the Yosan Line around Matsuyama in 1990, the 7000 series is a one-man operated compact railcar replacing the diesel trains that operated in the area. To accommodate the narrow limits of the tunnels on the line, the car's full width is just 2.8 meters, and a new model of dual-arm pantograph was installed to lower the full height. in 1992, A further 24 cars were produced in preparation of the full electrification of the Yosan Line from Iyoshi Station to Takamatsu Station. There are two types of cars in this series, a dual cab motor car (7000) and a single cab trailer car (7100). The 7000 type cars can operate independently or coupled to a 7100 type, and the maximum length of formations is 5 cars. All 36 cars are currently in service, divided between the Matsuyama and Takamatsu depots. They are operated on the entire electrified section of the Yosan and Dosan Lines.
