Handlebar's Cured Meat

Description
Updated! All items now maintain nutrition value and hunger levels. Prior to, many items were resetting to 0, and caught animals were not maintaing their random weight. It is now fixed as of 10/27/24!

Handlebar’s Cured Meat adds a lightweight addon that just simply allows you to cure/dry meat for long term storage. Requires salt.

  • Fish
  • Chicken
  • Rabbit
  • Frog
  • Steak
  • Pork
  • Rodent
  • Bird
  • Mutton
Also adds a larger Salt Container to loot!

Mod is mid game safe, to addon and remove.

Please tell me your thoughts on balance.

    FAQ
    Can’t cure meat.
You have to have Salt, knife, and an uncooked meat item from the list above. You must “prep” the food before you cook.

    The food cooks to slow.
Well you are drying, curing it. It is for balance.

Does the Cured meats go bad?
Yes, but they can last over a month! Better fresh of course.

@nakedbuffalo,

I haven't had that problem. I find most the large salt in restaurants. However most people I know all have a large salt container like this in their house.

I'm trying to go from memory but I think the loot table on this has it at 1/10 rarity. Perhaps just bad(good)luck?

Currently using this mod with Inventory Tetris, prepped a mutton and it takes up like 8x8 tiles for some reason. I don't know why, but anyways I just felt like mentioning this incase anyone else is using inventory tetris :steamhappy:

Suffers from the problem where you need the base game salt, but all you find are these salt containers. The base salt exists in my game, but the loot table is smothered by the salt from this. Searched wayy too many kitchens in March Ridge to not find any base game salt.

Awesome, thank you for the update!

I am currently using, among other mods, eris_food_expiry, which shows the cured meats as rotting after 4 days, even when cured properly. HOWEVER, they do seem to actually last for the intended length (2w from fresh to stale, 2m from fresh to rotten), and the shown dates are incorrect. Just so everyone knows, this mod does actually work, and if you're having problems with your meats rotting, you probably forgot to cook them (prepare the raw meat and then cook it, do not try to cure already cooked meat, it does not preserve that). I used this the other day in my playthrough on B41 no issue.

You salt the meat, the cure it on the oven. It takes a fair amount of time to cure. Several in-game hours.

What version of the game are you using? Any other major food mods?
