Description
The 2600 Series is a commuter EMU operated by Keihan Electric Railway since 1978.

An "egg shaped" train based on the 2000 series, the 2600 series entered service after the voltage increase on the line. It is composed of two subgroups, the 0 series trains were re-manufactured from the 2000 series sets. Equipment for the new voltage, air conditioning, and regenerative brakes were installed with the car body and bogies reused. They are considered by Keihan as a new type rather than a modified 2000 series, and the plate within the cars display Keihan's Neyagawa factory instead of the original manufacturer. In addition, 4 completely new sets were produced by Kawasaki in 1982 to the same technical specifications. There were a total of 131 cars in the 2600 series, and they were operated as 4, 5, or 7 car formations throughout it's service history. However, from 2016 onwards the 2600 series were fixed to 7 cars and no longer used on the Keihan branch lines. 0 series sets with it's older equipment began to be scrapped from 2001, and regular service with the type ended in 2021. All 4 of the 30 series sets remain active as of current, they are operated interchangeably with other 7 car trains on the Keihan Main Line.
