Description
The KiHa 25 Series (キハ25形) is a general-purpose DMU operated by JR Central since 2011.

Based on the company's 313 series EMUs, the KiHa 25 series have a nearly identical exterior. Being the latest type for JR Central's standard diesel trains, it is equipped with modern accessibility features and an electronic monitoring system to prevent derailment accidents. The first batch was produced to increase the number of services for the successful rapid train Mie. While the second batch entered service in 2014 to replace the old KiHa 40 and KiHa 11 series units. 62 vehicles were produced in this series, all arranged in sets of 2. The first batch (0/100 series) were equipped with cross seats and also saw service on the Taketoyo Line until it's electrification in 2015, they were then diverted to the Takayama Main Line and Taita Line. The second batch (1000/1100 series) of vehicles have long seating, and were operated in the Mino-ota district until the first batch was transferred there. They were subsequently modified to warm weather specifications and now operates the rural lines of Mie Prefecture.
