Description
The 303 Series (303系) is a commuter EMU operated by JR Kyushu since 1999.

Introduced prior to the timetable revision in 2000, the 303 series was produced to increase the number of trains on JR Chikuhi Line - Fukuoka Subway through services. The suburban portion of the Chikuhi line were doubled tracked to handle higher demand from the development of commuter towns for Fukuoka around this time. The 303 series was thus developed for compatibility with subway operations, it has a narrower body than most JR trains, and the seating layout is entirely long seats. Automatic train announcements are installed for the subway portion, along with support for ATO. There are only 3 formations in existence, all arranged in sets of 6 cars. They were operated interchangeably with the 105-1500 series before 2015, and since then with their successor the 305 series.
