Description
The 800 Series (800系) is a subway/tram vehicle operated by Keihan Electric Railway.

Manufactured for direct operations between the Keihan Keishin Line and Kyoto Municipal Subway's Tōzai Line, the 800 series is a unique vehicle within Keihan's fleet. Operating as a tram on the Keishin Line and a subway vehicle on the Tōzai Line, various running and safety equipment are installed on board. Including measures against steep slopes and sharp curves on the tram section, while maintaining the high acceleration performance required for subway vehicles via. As a result of it's unique array of equipment and small production quantity, a Keihan representative once commented that the 800 series could be the most expensive rail vehicle in Japan per meter of train length. There are 8 sets totalling 32 cars all manufactured in 1997. The two leading cars have a semi-cross interior while the middle cars are installed with long seating. It is one of the rare examples of cross seats in a Japanese subway system. At a full length of 66 meters it is also one of the longest trams to run in mixed traffic. All 800 series sets operate between Uzumasa Tenjingawa Station on the Tōzai Line and Biwako-Hamaotsu Station on the Keishin Line.
