Description
The KiHa 11 Series (キハ11形) is a single car DMU operated by JR Central.

Produced for the purpose of replacing aging DMUs built in the 1960s, the KiHa 11 Series adopted the NDC concept of light diesel railcars designed by Niigata Iron Works. The type was primarily placed on regional lines in Mie prefecture, first entering service in 1989. There were two original variants, the 0 series for warm regions, and the 100 series equipped with cold weather resistance. The latter of which ran shorter services on the Takayama Main Line. As both types did not have toilets installed they were typically not used for longer runs. 4 cars of the 200 series were manufactured in 1993 for the Jōhoku Line, which was owned by JR Central but operated by the Tokai Transport Service Company. In 1999 an improved model for warm regions would be introduced as the 300 series, these vehicles have a wider passenger cabin and accessible toilets. 6 cars of the 300 series were produced, for a total of 43 across all variants. From 2015-2016 JR Central would remove the majority of 0 and 100 series cars from their deployments, they were replaced by the newer KiHa 25 and Kiha 75 series. Most retired vehicles were sold to Myanmar, while a few were bought by Hitachinaka Seaside Railway in Ibaraki prefecture. As of current, JR Central retains only 4 cars of the 300 series variant, all of which are operated on the Meishō Line. There are no plans to replace the remaining vehicles, however, concerns are present that the Meishō Line could be abolished, with KiHa 11 series removed as a consequence.
