Description
The 6000 Series (6000系) is a commuter EMU operated by Keihan Electric Railway since 1983.

A new design intended to be fit for the 21st century, the 6000 Series was constructed to replace rolling stock that would not be modified for 1500V DC compatibility. Constructed with an aluminium outer body, the type achieved significant weight reductions compared to the previous 5000 series. Initially operating as 7 car sets, like other rolling stock on the Keihan Main Line, the 6000 series were also extended to 8 cars after the Kyoto underground extension opened in 1987. These later cars, labelled the 6750 type, more closely resembles intermediate cars of the 7000 series. A total of 115 vehicles were manufactured for this type, three of which were experimental units with VVVF inverter control systems and were later incorporated into the 7000 series. The remaining 112 cars are arranged in 14 8-car sets, they have operated a range of running patterns in their service history, but since 2008 has primarily been used on through services between the Keihan Main Line and Nakanoshima Line.
