Simple Mortality - Less Bloodthirsty Fork

Description
This is a 70% less bloodthirsty fork of the mod Simple Mortality [Bloodthirsty Fork] with 100% more surprise. One might also call this the Sudden Death Fork.
See below for original and original original mod description. The original original mod Simple Mortality is no longer available.

Purpose
This mod creates a health condition called "Mortality" which is lethal within a year and triggered by the birthday event. The chance of contracting Mortality increases with the age of the pawn. This means that pawns will not grow older indefinitely. Animals are also affected, with their specific life expectancies taken into account.

Changes from the Bloodthirsty Fork
# The chance values for triggering Mortality are reduced by about two thirds. Mortality can first affect a (humanoid) pawn with a regular lifespan on their 50th birthday with a chance of 0.3%, and on every birthday after that with increasing chance. Calculations and testing showed that survival rates for humanoid pawns are roughly (also see preview image):

95% until age 60
75% until age 70
45% until age 80
20% until age 90
5% until age 100
1% until age 105

Assuming, of course, that no one is knifed by a raider, crushed by a roof or mauled by a warg before their time. And assuming that all pawns start out at an age below 50. During testing, average life expectancy was a couple of years below 80 when only considering Mortality as a cause of death.

# Death will no longer occur exactly 10 days after the birthday when Mortality was triggered. It will take between 10 and 60 days to kill the pawn.

# Pawns will not spawn suffering from Mortality. Because the game doesn't care about the age of the spawned pawn when assigning hediffs, and because it's not that unlikely that a pawn might win Mortality in the lottery of chronic conditions. It would screw up the statistics. Not to mention that it could kill a colonist not long after the start of the game, even if they're of a young age.

# To make sure that death by Mortality is completely unexpected, the condition is no longer visible in the health tab, and there will be no birthday letter to announce it.

Meaning: Your previously healthy pawn might one day just drop dead from Mortality without any warning.

Integration
  • Ideology: Biosculptor can remove the hidden condition Mortality during a regeneration cycle.
  • Biotech: Carriers of the genes ageless, deathless and non-senescent are prevented from contracting Mortality.
  • RealDeathless: Carriers of the realdeathless gene are prevented from contracting Mortality. (Patch added with this fork.)
  • Immortals: By default immortals can contract Mortality. This can be changed in the hediff-specific mod settings of Immortals.
  • Immortals Gene: Carriers of the immortal and chargephoenix genes are prevented from contracting Mortality. (Patch added with this fork.)
  • Celestials: Celestials (pawns with the Celestial health condition) are "immune" to mortality. (Patch added with this fork.)

A big thank you goes to UncleToviVT and monkeyfeet, the original original and original creator/adapter of this mod.

Bloodthirsty Fork Original Description:
This mod was originally made by UncleToviVT. You can see the original page here:

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3020515550 [[no longer available]]

This fork just changes the chances for mortality to be applied so that pawns will die younger. The chance to get mortality starts at age 50, and increases exponentially. Most pawn will get mortaility between 60-75. Also, this fork adds the chance for long-lived pawns, as after 90 years old, the chance for mortality to be applied is reduced somewhat, and stays constant. This is rare though, so you probably will not see it unless you have a signifigant amount of pawns.

[ORIGINAL MOD PAGE DESCRIPTION]
This mod adds a mortality system to the Game. Every birthday after the 60est has a increasing chance to apply “Mortality”. Once received the colonist will die after 10 ingame days. You can prolong your colonists life by treating him/her with a “Healer Mech Serum” or a “Bio-Regen Cycle” in the Biosculptor from the Ideology DLC.

Percentages:

Each Birthday:

*60 – 70 = 1%
*70 – 80 = 5%
*80 = 10%

After the 80est birthday the chance increases by 2.5% each year until it hits 50% at the age of 96

Sub mods:
*None right now.

Mod Compatibility:
*No known incompatibilities.
*Please let me know of any errors or difficulties and I will do my best to address them.

@lucasbobo22 I would think so, if the age counter goes up faster. It can get triggered only on a birthday, though.

does this takes into acount the faster aging setting? (i use the vanilla 6x age rate while playing)

@klvlt Thanks for the response! Maybe i'm just unlucky then, fingers crossed something pops up soon.

@TamTroll Calculations are based on the lifespan of the pawn, so it should be triggered earlier in creatures with a shorter lifespan. I say "should" because I don't know how this gene works and how the game processes it internally. It could be that it isn't taken into account for some reason.

is this designed with shorter lifespans in mind?

I've got pawns with the "short lifespan" gene from More Genes, so i think they're supposed to live around 40-ish or so, but I've got pawns in their late 50's who still haven't contracted Mortality.

Am i just getting lucky / unlucky? or is the effect only going to trigger at 60+ even with the short lifespan gene?
