Molinera

Description
Origin of the Molinera de Bailén grape

Thus, between olive trees and olive trees, the province of Jaén has an extensive wine-growing tradition and it is precisely in Bailén where one of the most interesting red varieties is grown: La Molinera, which, by the way, has little or nothing to do with Pinot Meunier.

As French as Napoleon himself and in his language it means precisely that. Miller. Well, it has nothing to do with one of the French grapes par excellence for the production of Champagne along with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. What is certain is that the Molinera de Bailén comes to these lands as a way to diversify the crops and economy of an area that has the olive tree as the main element of wealth generation.

Characteristics of the Molinera de Bailén grape

Sweet, both in color and flavor. It has a delicate pink hue and results in a very sweet wine full of sensations.

Furthermore, the Molinera de Bailén has long and very large clusters, one or two per branch, very productive. Likewise, the grapes are spherical, large in size, and very juicy.

Authentic still life grapes, delicious on the table and very productive in terms of the yield of their must. One of those that the painters of the 19th century liked so much. The most colorful and attractive.

Both inside and out. There are two of its fundamental characteristics when it comes to producing wines. Very small seeds and thin, very soft skin that will give them a special shine. As much as oil.

Molinera de Bailén grape growing area

Bailén is a PGI with the right to the traditional Vino de la Tierra mention. It has been since 2004 and includes productions from the municipalities of Bailén, Baños de la Encina, Mengíbar, Torredelcampo and Guarromán, Villanueva de la Reina. Only areas in the world where such a special variety is grown.

On clay, sandstone, and countryside soil that gives greater sweetness to the fruit and is very well adapted to the terrain and extreme climate. High temperatures in summer and cold in winter. Vineyards of great age, planted in glass and very resistant to both thermal oscillations and drought, water stress and diseases.

La Molinera protagonist of the Bailén Land Wine

Curious, everything that has to do with the Molinera de Bailén. In inferiority to the olive tree, attractive, full of virtues, resistant to the environment and the enemy,... Seen like this, she should have a leading role in a movie or something like that reserved for her. Maybe from the War of Independence.

Well, that's how it is, because their curiosity about the variety is that it has to be part of all the wines of the IGP Vino de la Tierra de Bailén. Of all, both red and white. Yes, and in a percentage never lower than 55% and from there things go up, up to 100% in the case of white red grapes. Delicious, refreshing and full of sensations to toast Bailén and the still unknown Molinera grape with unique and different wines.
