Description
The KiHa 75 Series (キハ75形) is a 2-car DMU operated by JR Central on regional lines.

Produced from 1993-1999, the KiHa 75 Series was developed for rapid train Mie linking Nagoya with the Ise-Shima region. In order to improve the competitiveness of the service, the top speed of the type was raised to 120km/h, faster than most diesel railcars in Japan. Transmission and control equipment is based on the KiHa 85 series limited express vehicles. Seating is in a 2+2 convertible cross seat configuration, with bays of 4 and airline style present. In the post war era, Kintetsu gradually captured the majority of passengers in the Ise-Shima region. JR's Kisei Main Line and Sangū Line were unelectrified and served by diesel cars with low operation speeds, while Kintetsu introduced direct limited express services onto their electrified lines. JR Central hoped to recapture a portion of the market with the higher quality of service offered by the KiHa 75 series compared to previous rolling stock. 6 sets were produced in 1993 and entered service the same year on Mie, an additional 14 sets were introduced in 1999 for a total of 40 cars, these were used to increase the frequency of service, and also saw service on the Taketoyo Line. Some sets were transferred to the Mino-Ōta area after the the Taketoyo Line was electrified in 2015, these sets were modified for cold regions, and relabelled the 3500/3600 series. As of current, the KiHa 75 series are utilized on the Takayama Main Line and Taita Line, in addition to rapid Mie and local trains on the Sangū Line.
