Summary: Why Quest 2 players are disliked.
By Hallow O' Kin
Quest 2 users have long since left their peak population, but are still very much around to this day, far from being the endangered species the community often states them to be. I've wondered why 'Questies' (as the community has rather un-affectionately named them,) has so much resentment for these users. After some time in public instances asking questionnaires to completely random people, I've boiled it down to just two things.

Even if you do not fall into either category, the stigma around Quest 2 users remains as strong as it was since Quest 2 players could play VRChat for over 3 years now.
A: Quest 2 users are often too young to be on the platform. VRChat consists of users and content usually of 17+ nature, and because of this there is often a lot of scrutiny and prejudice because most 'Questies' are <17. Understandably, a lot of people on the platform are uncomfortable with this idea and often will shrug off or go as far as to break ToS and crash Quest users to make them go away.
B: PC & PC-VR users have for the longest time, had to accomodate and optimize our avatars specifically for a significantly weaker system which its users will probably not even show the avatar for. I can personally attest to the difficulty of optimizing an avatar for Quest 2 compatibility when not using an impostor, and even VRChat knows Quest 2 users can't handle very much.

Oh also, elitism or something.

BONUS LIMITED EDITION HOT TAKE: Quest 2 would not have sold out as well as it did if VRChat was not popularized by celebrities during, and shortly before the pandemic in 2020 started.

@Magenta Lizard

If you happen to have a PC capable of running VRChat, I'd pick up Virtual Desktop or run the Steam Link app. Both let you keep the portability of the Quest 2 while having the power of the PC. PC is just more fun imo.

Never had a single problem with the Valve Index in my years of using it. The Quest 2 on the other hand has not done a single thing without there being some kind of niche problem that takes an hour of trouble shooting to fix. It's a piece of steaming garbage, and my $1000 dollars for an Index was much better spent.

The mobile platform of VRChat greatly outnumbers the PC users at this point. I've definitely seen an increasing shift in the past year from "oh its a questie" to "Why are these jerks using PC only avatars". So it's hard to say that the questies are a minority getting bullied.

I think a lot of the original distaste came from PC users after Spookality 2020 or 2021. Everyone always looked forward to these new amazing horror maps and halloween themed worlds... and then all of the worlds were "optimized" for quest and they all looked like PS1 games. People back then couldn't upload two versions of a world like they can now, and people were angry. It's definitely better now, but PC users are still a bit bitter of feeling like their progress is being held back as you mentioned above.

I fucking hate the quest 2. No matter how many times I have flawlessly used it, in around a week a whole new problem arises that I have to accommodate for. Currently my headset just loses charge even though it is plugged into my PC for quest link and has the cursed STICK DRIFT. The only reason I have not upgraded is cause I don't have the money

I use the Quest 2 with my PC since it allows me to use it wireless so i can use it in other rooms in the house since my PC is in my bedroom where my bed takes up most of the space in a otherwise more then big enough room

I hate Quest Two because of one thing you have to have a robust PC with a USB C port in the GPU, and the valve index is just easier to use with a moderate PC, yes it may be more money, but you get a better experience, no battery draining while in play, and user friendly then the quest 2 straps
