Tips
- Squads need four people to be made, remember about it
- At the start of the game gather wood, don't bother with metal or bricks.
- 150 to 300 units of wood will be more than enough for you to survive early game
- Use one squad to search small building, two or more to search bigger buildings. The more squads you have in a building, the faster it'll be searched
- Deconstruct small buildings first, bigger ones later
- Deconstruct buildings not only to get materials but also to clear some space
- One unit of food is being eaten by 4 four people.
- Don't take every single group of people. Take them only if you have food.
- You don't need to have guards sitting in towers during the day, take them off duty and assign somewhere else. Remeber to order them to go back to towers at 4 to 5 PM!!
- After unlocking a car turn one squad unit into a mobile one (by ordering them to get into a car), rename them just so you would know they're in the car, and send them to scavenge buildings in a different part of the town
- To equip better weapon, take one off of your guy by pressing and holding LMB on his current weapon and after that tell your squad to go to the HQ and they will automatically take the best weapon they have.
- Do not give the first guy in the squad a automatic weapon, because he's always the driver so he wont be able to fire while driving. Give it to the other members of the squad.
- During winter you set farmers to 0. They don't work because it's too cold, so you can give them something to do. (Thanks @Naoral)
- During early game when you're still collecting resources you can adapt small buildings instead of big ones to save some resources, The drawbacks are not really that bad, but you won't be able to put a lot of people into building like that, and if you're using very small building as, let's say, kitchen then only one person will be able to work there. But when you're still in early game this can actually save you and your storage.
- Use barbed wire to hurt infected and infected dogs while they're trying to destroy your walls. Place them near the walls or in front of them.
- Watch out how you're placing walls and towers: sometimes there can be small gaps almost invisible for you to see and infected can get inside your base (currently it's happening in my playthrough, 20.04.2024)
- Finish construction of walls, towers and gates before the night, or infected WILL destroy them even if they weren't fully built.
- Put squads in different buildings in your base to make sure every single corner is secured.
- Destroy buildings in your base that are either not suited for adaptation or the ones that are obstructing the view - it'll help your squad aim and see better.
- During early game have at least one tower equpped with 2 pistols, others with bows. Give them more pistols later.
- Do NOT take refugees if your food supply is low. I know this is common sense, but a lot of people take them anyway and loose all the food they had. It's very easy to go from XX food to zero.
- After you kill raiders (bandits) remember to loot them by sending squads to their bodies (game marks them automatically). You can actually get quite goods stuff especially for the early game (pistols, ammo, etc.)
- Use your vehicles as mobile turrets; place them near infected or raiders and watch how fast they die!
- If you want to attack infected (in the house) or raiders, alwyays bring at least two squads just in case. You can turn unemployed people into squads, send them to fight and after that tell them to come back and delete that squad. They'll return to HQ as unemployed people.
- Make sure every part of the walls is defended by guards, because horde size increases so it's easy to get overwhelmed.
- Put your squads behind walls to help your guards with fighting against infected.
- Clean infested houses near your base!
- You don't need to demolish all the buildings to finish your wall; you can attach walls to the building. However, infected can enter it so it's a gamble.
- After getting carbines give at least one to each squad.
- Prioritize getting food first. The more food you got, the more time you have to loot buildings with different resources.
- Send your vehicles to get gasoline in a different part of town and if you have space in your car order them to search other buildings.
- Use SHIFT + PPM to select multiple buildings to be searched.

For the hint about the holes in the walls that can't be seen; You can rotate your camera with E and Q

Weird, because I only could create a squad with 4 people in it. I never could choose how many people I want to turb into scavengers.

"Yes, but you need 4 unemployed people to create a squad, so that's why I wrote it like that."

No, you dont... petera1289 already told you you can have smaller squads. (and he's right)

"Squads need four people to be made, remember about it"
squad can be made with single person, it depends how many "unemployed" you have when you "create squad".
If you find a big cargo car (like pickup truck = 20) a one person squad can drive it to other squads and "exchange" cargo with them to avoid them walking back to base etc

@Paulos231 That is true, yes. But if you're using bows or wait hour or two before you'll take them out of the towers to do other jobs, they should resupply already

Towers with low ammo need guards in the during the day to resupply. Or switch weapons.

" You don't need to have guards sitting in towers during the day, take them off duty and assign somewhere else. Remeber to order them to go back to towers at 4 to 5 PM!!"

I would also like to add that in winter you don’t need farmers in the fields, let them work in other places!

If you hear "SWARM", click on this message on the radio to see where the sound is coming from. Send a squad in that direction in a car and when the time comes for them to move to your base, you can attract their attention to the car and drive it around the city, then you won’t have to defend the base. When the sun rises, the zombies will run home, take 4+ squads and clear the buildings with zombies. This is simpler and easier than TD and restoration of each damage.
