Description
The 7300 and 7500 Series (7300系・7500系) are AGT vehicle types operated by New Transit Yurikamome in Tokyo, Japan.

Representing the second generation of vehicles for Yurikamome, the 7300 series was introduced in 2014 to replace the 7000 series sets used since the line's opening. As ridership on the line had steadily risen, double doors were adopted to improve passenger flow. The interior had also been changed to be entirely composed of long seats, which increased capacity by about 10%. To reduce weight, the exterior was constructed with a double skin aluminium alloy structure, as opposed to stainless steel bodies used on previous vehicles. Only one type of alloy is used for the entirely of the car's body, this allows easy and cost effective recycling of materials when the cars are eventually scrapped. All sets are composed of a fixed 6-car formation, with each car 9 meters in length. The 7500 series was produced from 2018-2020 with a few minor modifications such as passenger cabin equipment and ventilation systems. In total, 156 cars were produced, which represents all vehicles currently operating on the Yurikamome AGT.

Operator Background:

New Transit Yurikamome (officially 'Tokyo Rinkai New Transit Rinkai Line'), is a 14.7km AGT system operating in Tokyo's waterfront district. 'Yurikamome' is named after the black headed-gull, which is commonly seen across Tokyo Bay. The line operates from the major rail interchange at Shimbashi Station to a number of artificial islands in Tokyo Bay in a roughly semi-circular arc, connecting to the Tokyo Metro Yūrakuchō Line at it's terminus. It has a total of 16 stations. Third sector company Yurikamome Inc. owns and operates the line, with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as it's primary shareholder. First opening in 1995, it was envisioned to be a new access line for the 1996 World Cities Expo, which was cancelled just one year prior by the Governor of Tokyo after the burst of the Japanese asset price bubble and subsequent economic malaise. Construction on the AGT system had already been near completion, and thus it was not scrapped. There were significant concerns about the project's financial viability, as projected passenger numbers were only around half of the 80,000 daily required for self-sustainability. There was also heavy competition from the Tokyo Waterfront Area Rapid Transit's Rinkai Line. While initial passenger numbers were low as expected, the decision to open up the waterfront area to development of entertainment districts in the 2000s had greatly strengthened ridership. Pre-pandemic figures show a daily ridership of 133,000 passengers.
