Automated Turnout Exit Switching

A bare layout demonstrating how automation tools can be used to set turnouts for exiting trains. Click the Start lever to see operation.

This automation makes no difference to train operations, it is of cosmetic value only.

On the left is a single turnout version. Most components could be replaced with the Turnout & Signal Controller module.
On the right is a multiple turnout version - built using the module for greater simplicity - showing how the automation can be stacked.

I do not require attribution if you incorporate this logic into a published layout.

Technical notes

- All train detection switches are set to Start only.
- There is usually no need to AI-lock the exit turnout(s).
- In the single turnout version wireless (password) communication can be used from the train detection switches to the logic gates. In the multiple turnout version wireless communication is possible using the method shown, labelled "pwd".
