Description
The TX-1000 Series (TX-1000系) is an EMU operated by the Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company on the Tsukuba Express commuter line.

One of the two types produced prior to the opening of Tsukuba Express, the TX-1000 series is a 6-car commuter-type train capable of up to 130km/h, which makes it faster than most vehicles on Tokyo's vast commuter networks, and the fastest one-man operated train in Japan. The type is only utilized on the section of the line south of Moriya as it is not fitted for AC/DC dual voltage operations, services continuing further north are carried out by the TX-2000 series or the new TX-3000 series. The interior design is fully long seating to maximize capacity, and all cars have digital displays and air conditioning. Automatic broadcasting in both Japanese and English are also available. 84 cars in 14 formations were produced, and as the type is just approaching an average age of 20 years, they will likely remain in service for another decade or two. In addition, the operator has announced that extension to 8-cars will be carried out around 2030 to reduced congestion, at the request of local governments along the line.
