Odakyu 30000 Series / 小田急30000形

The 30000 Series (30000形) is an EMU operated by Odakyu Electric Railway on Limited Express "Romancecar" services.

The Romancecar services were created with the intention of transporting tourists from Tokyo to the popular Hakone area, however as time went on an increasing number of business/commuting travellers made use of the intermediate stops on the line. Aiming to address this increasing demand, the 30000 Series "EXE" would be the first Romancecar to run dedicated commuter express services. Produced from 1996-1999, this new type incorporated a design where car 1 and 10 would have a protruding front shape while car 6 and 7 had flat fronts, which became end cars when the formation split. This allowed passengers to pass through between car 6 and 7 when coupled together, which improved the flow of passengers in commuter operations. Starting from 2017, a renewal and service extension program have been carried out, with the updated cars branded "EXEα". 70 cars were produced in total, all remain in service as the oldest Romancecar type.
