Description
The 735 Series (735系) is an EMU operated by JR Hokkaido since 2012.

Based on the design of the earlier 731 series, the 735 series represents JR Hokkaido's experiment with aluminium body rolling stock. 2 3-car sets were produced in 2010 and extensively tested over the next two years, with the results confirming the validity of the technology in Hokkaido's harsh winters. After testing the sets entered regular service, although the type was never mass produced. A stainless steel design also based on the 731 series, known as the 733 series was manufactured in it's place, whilst the 735's technology would be utilized in the later 737 series. The two existent sets operate in and around Sapporo, often coupled to the 721, 731, or 733 series to form 6-car sets.
