+Mult is better than Bonus, ×Mult is better than +Mult. You always want to go for Mult if possible.
Let's say you play Pair of Jacks.
That's 10×2 base + 2 Jacks = 30×2 = 60
Now the Jacks can be either Bonus or Mult cards.
Bonus: (10+2×10+30×2)×2 = 90×2 = 180
Mult: (10+2×10)×(2+2×4) = 30×10 = 300
If you go for mult, that's 66.6% more chips
But what's more important, +Mult scales much better with ×Mult than extra chips.
Let's add one 3×Mult Joker to our example.
Bonus: (10+2×10+30×2)×2 = 90×(2×3) = 540
Mult: (10+2×10)×(2+2×4) = 30×(10×3) = 900
While the percentage difference stays the same, focusing on Mult cards instead of Bonus cards allows you to hit higher numbers which is important to beat high Antes.
Played Kings and Queens each gives x2 Mult when scored. If you have red seal or Seltzer they trigger this too.
I'm especially grateful to you for being the first I've read to explain why I would want to destroy any cards: "Thinning your deck by destroying low cards makes it easier for you to draw a hand of only high cards."
Duh! Now I get it!
