About
AmbientRim adds several new ambient sound effects to objects on the Rim
  • Rivers
  • Coasts
  • Campfire/Brazier
  • Trees: Birds, Night Owls
  • Beaches: Seagulls
  • Corpses: Buzzing flies
  • Grass: Cicadas

Customization
  • Turn audio effects on / off, switch between different versions
  • Volume change with volume option and "Game volume"

Other
  • Low/No performance impact.
  • Safe to add, safe to remove

The Camera+ mod is recommended. Without Camera+, the audio is louder then intended and may need to be lowered (see customization).

I'm also getting log spam when I use debug mode. Not sure if it's all about sounds, but there definitely are mutiple errors with Birds sound mentioned.

Haven't personally gotten this issue, but large Player.log files is a known issue when modding Rimworld, and I can see how this mod could cause it. Since it seems to be an internal issue within the Unity engine, there doesn't seem to be anything I could do to fix it.

If you get this issue and don't care about the contents of Player.log (which is just debug and error messages produced by the game), there's an easy workaround - setting Player.log file to be read-only.

On Windows, the file is located at C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld by Ludeon Studios. Open Properties and set the attribute to be Read-only.

Yeah, the FMOD error is caused by too many sounds being played at once. Increasing minimum bird distance to 30 fixed this issue for me.

Typically the audio would just cut off in this situation, so it might be an Unity bug present in this specific version.

I also got 50+ GB log files. It spams such like this:
Error executing m_FMODChannel->setFrequency(m_Pitch * m_DopplerPitch * m_BaseFrequency) (The specified channel has been reused to play another sound. )
After I disabled this MOD, the errors are gone (for the moment I guess)
Maybe to much sounds at once in a big colony.

@vartarhoz How is that possible? your game isnt running anymore so how is it still throwing you error logs lol..

Beware any sound mod especially in older hardware will stuck in error loop after quitting game, PC will continuously write error log until your hard-drive fills. Since removing all audio mods, I no longer get Fmod error and also don't have 50 gb Player.log.

The campfire noise is extremely quiet, I think it could benefit from a buff.

Great work so far in updating this mod! I was wondering however if you might take a look into something. When this mod is installed with a mod that makes rivers freeze over in the winter, such as Water Freezes (https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3278128973) , the sound effect for rivers does not stop when the river is completely frozen over. Other than that, the mod works beautifully!
