Monk (FFT)

Description
An attempt at recreating the job class Monk from FFT in Dredmor.

CHANGELOG:

September 19, 2014

Abilities:
Hamedo activation lowered to 40% from 100%, because it overshadowed the other skills.
Secret Fist's dot now ( 0.2 * Nimbleness + 1). Nimbleness makes the most sense for more accurately hitting pressure points.

September 18, 2014

Stats:
Rolled back melee gains from 5 to 2 on everything except Hamedo, added hitpoint gains on each.
Abilities:
Lowered damage on Spin Fist to 0.5 from 1.0 of melee skill.
Lowered damage on Secret Fist to 0.1 from 0.5 of melee skill.
Secret Fist now inflicts 4 asphyxiative damage for 30 turns instead of Inevitable Doom.
All attack abilities can now be activated on empty tiles.
Removed the attack animation from abilities, mostly because it was literally a normal attack.
Misc:
Added impact sprites for Spin Fist, Repeating Fist, Wave Fist, Chakra, Secret Fist and Earth Slash.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tier 0 - Spin Fist
'Turn in a circle, attacking with backhand blows.'
Secondary Buff - Melee + 2, Hitpoints + 1
Ability - Spin Fist - Downtime 5
Targets all adjacent squares and deals crushing damage equivalent to ( 0.5 * Melee + 1).

Tier 1 - Wave Fist
'Employ one's martial spirit to strike a distant foe.'
Secondary Buff - Melee + 2, Hitpoints + 1
Ability - Wave Fist - Downtime 10
Target a visible monster, dealing crushing damage equivalent to (Melee + 1).

Tier 2 - Repeating Fist
'Strike many times in quick succession.'
Secondary Buff - Melee + 2, Hitpoints + 1
Ability - Repeating Fist - Downtime 15
Deals crushing damage equivalent to (0.5 * Melee + 1), and a high chance to trigger again.

Tier 3 - Secret Fist
'Invite slow, certain death with blows to pressure points.'
Secondary Buff - Melee + 2, Hitpoints + 1
Ability - Secret Fist - Downtime 15
Deals crushing damage equivalent to (0.1 * Melee + 1), and inflicts (0.2 * Nimbleness + 1) asphyxiative damage for 30 turns on hit.

Tier 4 - Chakra
'Draw out the energy within the body's chakra points to restore HP and MP.'
Secondary Buff - Melee + 2, Hitpoints + 2
Ability - Chakra - Downtime 25
Restores HP and MP equivalent to (Melee + 1) and (0.5 * Melee + 1) respectively.

Tier 5 - Earth Slash
'Release spiritual energy mighty enough to rend the earth.'
Secondary Buff - Melee + 2, Hitpoints + 2
Ability - Earth Slash - Downtime 25
In a straight line eight blocks long from the caster, deals crushing damage equivalent to (1 * Melee + 1).

Tier 6 - Hamedo
'Attack while being attacked.'
Secondary Buff - Melee + 5, Hitpoints + 5
Player Hit Effect Buff - Hamedo
When attacked via normal attacks, 40% chance to deal crushing damage equivalent to (Melee + 1) to the attacker.

Hamedo is the most different, and its original effects could be recreated by gaining enough counter skill. In its original state however, it would be largely overpowered so was changed to require taking damage for activation. The Doomed status, with its 3 turn kill would be rather strong in Dredmor. Secret Fist was changed to accommodate this, and inflicts asphxiative damage over time instead.

Yes, Repeating Fist has a 75% chance of triggering again each time after the first use.
I was unaware that you could scale dot damage that way, so I'll probably update in a little while with something like that.

Oh wow, this looks neat. I love FFT (and some of both games' mechanics made me wish Dredmor Tactics was a thing).
I'm glad you didn't put in the passive skill that adds a quadratic scaling to your normal attack :feena:
Secret Fist should probably scale with a stat of your choice so it's neither overpowered early on nor useless in the late game. I suggest either adding scaling damage to each tick (while probably lowering the base damage) or putting a high-scaling damage burst at the end. Magical Law's Gag Order, for reference, has a 0.15 scaling each tick with half duration (while also being cheap and spammable).
Does Repeating Fist's reactivation stack?
