Tomes of the Warlord

Description
Overview
This mod adds two Chaos/Order Tomes themed around tactics and warfare.

My goals with this set of tomes were to expand on the martial warlord archetype, and to provide more tome options for the Order and Chaos affinities that are independent from Fiends and Celestials.

Features
  • Tome of Legions - tier 2 - Muster relentless armies instilled with martial discipline and led by experienced veterans. Features the Cohort, a tier 3 racial polearm unit that can be recruited in cities or created by upgrading experienced tier 1 units with a spell.
  • Tome of the Warlord - tier 4 - Master the art of war. Employ cunning tactics that harness the superior Morale of your armies and specialize in coordinating a variety of Unit Types. Features the Warlord, a tier 4 supporting Mythic unit that directs your units with tactical commands in battle.

Compatibility
No changes to any of the base game .rpk files.

Cohort visual problems with the alternate culture appearance options from "Culture Tome Units and Alternate Culture Appearance" should hopefully be fixed.

Other
I would like to shout-out the helpful folks at the AoW Official Modding Discord.

Gladiator Pit and Veteran Instructors icons were generously contributed by fellow modder Visie Maigo.

I just cast the "Form Cohort" spell for the first time, and it added the Cohort to my army without sacrificing the 2 units.

I think the Order/Chaos traits make perfect sense for this; it's the mobilizing of one's population for war, conquest and pillage (Chaotic) carried out in an organized and professional manner (Order). The building associated with the Tome of Legions involves gladiatorial combat. Typically, Roman Gladiators were slaves of some variety, and AoW seems to depict slavery as a Chaotic institution.

Honestly, I think this kind of thing would make more sense as order/materium rather than order/chaos. Order/materium only has the monk theme which could fit with what you have here, while order/chaos is pretty clearly heretic-burning-themed. Nice tomes though, and a good idea that I think the game could use

@Deverin2112 that's a good idea actually. I wouldn't want to completely duplicate the architect assets but mixing in a few pieces along with the current mostly Reaver assets would probably help.

I'll look into it sometime later, still working on my Cloak and Dagger mod right now which is requiring some extra attention this update.

This obviously would be a request more down the road, but any thought to remodel the cohort using some of the assets from this expansion? Given their kind of inspired by hoplites/phalanx, I'd probably look fitting. Awesome tomes!!!

Hi everyone. If you're on the Ogre Patch Open Beta be warned that there was a modularity change introduced in this patch that can cause a drastic fps drop for some of the units in this mod when they are viewed in the encyclopedia and in game. It affects the Cohort units.

A fix will be coming eventually, sorry for the inconvenience.

Why *did* you outright get rid of the Form Cohort spell? I get that some people felt it to be overpowered, but couldn't you have just bumped up the rank requirement (i.e making it only work on Champion or even Legend T1s)?
