В ноябре 2015 года лихорадка «Эбола» охватила 1/3 население земли, был введен экспериментальный препарат от этой болезни «LUX», она подавляла вирус «Эбола» и не давала поражать живые ткани, число зараженных значительно уменьшилось. В марте 2016 года «LUX» погладила полностью «Эбола» при этом мутировала в ранее неизвестный паразитирующий вирус. Люди быстро заражались, первые признаки инфекции, высокая слуховая чувствительность, шизофрения, сильнейшая агрессия, после чего наступает процесс гниения (путрификации) органов и тканей за короткое время, происходит аутолиз (самопереваривание) клеток. Некоторые зараженные подвергаться внешним и внутренним изменениям превращаясь в ужасных тварей. Ученые назвали вирус «Conflict-X» сокращенно «CX»

В связи с массовым заражением было введено военное положение по всему земному шару, люди изолировались от болезни, строили закрытые лагеря. Но «СХ» научился быстро адаптироваться к окружению, и мутировал в споры способные быстро заражать через воздух. Участились огромные атаки заражённых. люди впали в панику, лагеря были разбиты изнутри, военные не сумели сдержать натиск и многие погибли, некоторые у кого иммунитет к «СХ» сумели выжить.

Четверо беженцев с военных лагерей встретились, каждый из разного взвода, разного звания, их сплотило желание выжить и узнать некоторые ответы на огромное количество вопросов, и найти новую колонию. (Bill, Francis, Louis, Zoey)

После эпидемии «СХ» в разных точках планеты высадили отряды ликвидаторов, кто их послал остаётся загадкой, но по слухам известно что они зачищают центры эпидемии в поисках образцов для искусственного иммунитета (Coach, Ellis, Nick, Rochelle)
