Generals and Admirals

Description
Generals and Admirals is an update and replacement for the old Generals and Traits mod. Army and Navy leaders and traits have been overhauled to improve gameplay, historical accuracy, and advancement. Existing leaders have been updated, and new characters included thanks to great portraits from the Steam community, listed below.

Field Marshals and generals are now set more correctly at the 1936 start. The starting level corresponds with their rank, and most starting traits are limited to personality traits. Thus, old guard generals and field marshals will be level 3 and 4, but limited in their ability to acquire new traits or level up quickly. Future star generals like Guderian, Monty, or Patton will start at 1 to 3, and will more rapidly accumulate earned traits due to their lower levels. Many of the best field marshal traits require earned traits, and so it helps to have your future sky marshals advance at the army level before putting them in command of army groups.

The second part of the mod is the traits themselves. Infantry, mobile, and armor leader traits require only a 25% participation, allowing a broader scope of these abilities. All traits in general have lower thresholds, which combined with the average lower starting levels means that the generals can earn a greater base of abilities through combat. This is meant to offset the problem of level 5 generals who can't earn Panzer Leader or Mountaineer even after five years of hard fighting. The traits have been tweaked since the first Generals and Traits mod, and are now more balanced.

The mod also adds admirals into the mix with a similar system. Since they start with mostly personality traits, make sure to match up the right man for the job if you want to specialize in submarines, carriers, battleships, or convoy defense.

Since the character files were edited, there are also some light changes to military advisors. No changes are made to focus trees, so this mod can be more compatible, but some of the advisor abilities have been altered, while some generals have been added as advisors at the start.

Compatibility: This mod is not compatible with overhaul mods such as Expert AI or Road to 56 due to conflicting character files. This mod will conflict with any mod that also changes character files or the traits file.

If you are using my USA Rework mod also, that mod needs to have precedence over this mod in order to work. The load order in the HOI4 launcher doesn't always work, so if there is still a conflict, you can rename or delete the common\characters\USA.txt file in this mod to let the TRM file work.

In vanilla, he’s an old guard chief of army advisor for the PRC.

Who is otto braun again? I looked in some vanilla character files but didn't see him.

Also otto braun was missing. Forgot to mention him, would he by chance be back or was he intentionally absent?

Their portraits were left untouched so this is a PDX issue. I've noticed with mods active graphics that appear and disappear (or default to generics) even when they are coded correctly. I manually put the path in now for the next update which should solve the issue. But PRC is going to have to be completely redone again after the new DLC along with everyone else.

noticed a bug w/ zhu de & peng dehuai. They have unique advisor portraits, but when this mod is turned on, they use generic asian advisor portraits instead

It seems to have been a bug of some sort caused by these two mods running together. Fortunately he was able to get it sorted out.

Imperator, I'm not sure why that would interfere because there's no need to add the character file to add a fourth inner circle slot. Strange. Rdunlavey, got anybody in mind for Spain? My basic criteria for adding people is that they should be historically significant (division commanders or above) and have good portraits available.

Hey could you add stuff for spain plssss

Hey remember how I brought to your attention awhile back my issue of Wilhelm Bittrich and the SS Officer trait disappearing? Along with all the other SS Generals and Himmler having the Militia Officer trait instead? And you speculated it to be a mod conflict? Well, I finally got around to checking that out, and you were right.

The culprit was 'Four[sic] Inner Circle Slot for Germany' by atkosturuyom. On closer inspection, it was actually screwing with quite a number of German Generals, as I noticed Bittrich wasn't the only one missing, a lot were.
