Introducing Day Number 13, the ’Wendigo’ - Recon. Speeder

“Long ago, Teal stood as the peak of humanities achievements; a barren rock transformed into a beautiful eden - something once thought impossible to achieve, now said to be impossible to reverse… but how wrong they were. In our hubris we became complacent and let our garden fall into disrepair, and now our nemesis has arrived - but one of our own making.

In our realisation of the rapidly failing atmosphere, we designed computers using quantum cores to regulate the planet's restorative efforts. The AI was fast, too fast, and quickly realised that the only means to a lasting planet was perpetual energy - perfect balance - and the one thing standing in the way of that was us, the rogue element. Quickly it took control of the planet and wiped us out; protecting its goal - the planet's welfare - rather than its people.

The AI had taken hold of all offworld transport, and trapped us; the last remnants of humanity to die. We knew we were doomed, but we also knew that we could break this cycle before it began. The Quantum Computers required constant cooling at near absolute zero to function, and the only means to do that was the Liquid Helium refineries that the Drones relied on for a continuing coolant supply. Without it, they would become finite, and eventually die… and so would we - but that didn’t matter, for our vengeance would be served, and that of our people.

We could not sustain our planet, for we were merely mortal.
So we made a robot, its mind was most abnormal..
It wouldn’t help us either, said humanity was to blame.
So we took a knife and drove it, but it killed us all the same."
