Tau Efficiency Achievement Guide
By Ragenarok
Yet another achievement guide for the achievement Tau Efficiency.
I made a 100% retribution guide recently and well, the length of this achievement alone made in unreasonable to squeeze into my more generalized guide.

Introduction
This guide was created because I hit the character limit in my overarching guide for Retribution as a whole. If you're aiming to 100% the entire game or just want to optimize your other last stand methods, Check it out here: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3109077520

Party Planning
Requirements:
  • Patience
  • 2 buddies that are willing and happy to help
  • That are all decently far enough along to have AT LEAST the required wargear unlocks, and ideally the recommended ones.
Doing this with Randoms is much more challenging as they will unknowingly or unwittingly be "griefing" your attempts
  • Practice
  • intimate knowledge on how to predict where wave 16 will spawn and where, from within that corner the clones appear.

So, where do they spawn? Where's the hot gate?

Waves to observe:
#1: look at the gates which remained closed.
#2: in one of the gates which remained closed in wave 1 there will be only Hormagaunts spawning (melee Tyranid mob). That's the hot gate.
#3: from the hot gate eldar warriors will spawn right away, while from the others they take more time.
#4: one gate opens last, from there a Force Commander and 2 Apotecaries spawn. Very useful if you're a cloning Sorcerer. This gate is always different from the hot gate.
#9: banshees will spawn from the hot gate
#16: clones from the hot gate, as soon as the wave before ends, remember this.

Player 1 (Tau player NOT getting the achievement)
Prerequisites:
Commander: Tau
Minimum level: 20

Advised:
  • Has Completed completed the Dynamic Entry Achievement to unlock weapon wargear.
  • Is familiar with how to predict where the 16th wave will be, and has detailed knowledge of where EXACTLY the clones will spawn

Reccomended loadout:
Weapons
Either: Flamer OR Airbursting Fragmentation Projector OR Burst Cannon AND Networked Weapon Interface

OR OR AND

Armor
XV8 ‘Armored’ Crisis Battlesuit

Required because it grants the Heavy trait: Lowers the distance of Jet, but increases the damage of impact as well as stuns enemies. This will be used to permanently stun lock the clones.

Accessories
Coolant Injectors AND Energy Core AND Ion Battery

AND AND

Player 1's role
It's Player 1's role to time a jump with the spawning of the clones in such a way that all clones get stunned under the landing point of this Tau's jump on wave 16. Ion batteries can stretegically deployed previously to ensure nobody is starving of energy when the time comes.
The Energy Core Grants +25 Energy and the coolant injectors decreases the cooldown of abilities by 5 seconds and the cost by 5 energy. This synergy of gear means this tau should be able to jump on and stun the team of enemy clones, walk away so that they can jump on them again, jump and land on them as, or before the stun from the previous jump expires, refreshing the stun and locking the enemy team in a tight, cluster for players 2& 3 to do their thing
Player 2 (Necron player NOT getting the achievement)
Prerequisites:
Commander: Necron
Minimum level: 20

Weapons
Voidreaper (only option)

Very important because Grants Ability: Entropic Strike (10 energy: Completely strip armor of enemy target and all nearby allies of that target for a short duration.)

Armor
Monolithic Diadem

Doesn't increase HP.
It's only going to help you and your team as clones won't get to use it because they'll be stunned.

Accessories
Glyph of the Implacable AND Glyph of the Tireless Harvest AND Pick your favorite of
Glyph of tombs (+85 Energy) is a very strong contender, but Glyph of the Wraith (Trait: Swift) is not without merit.
AND AND Pick your favorite of
OR

Commander Item
Raiment of the Tesseract

Very useful in crawling up the waves as well as not adding HP.

Player 2's role
Using the ability granted by raiment of the tessaract, which is much more spammable thanks to Glyph of the tireless harvest, The necron can stun lock waves that might prove a threat to a party that has such intentional low maximum HP. During wave 16, their only task is to use Entropic strike on the cluster of stunned enemies, cleaving all that highly stacked armor that kept the party of commander alive up to this point.
There is admittedly more flexibility in this player's picks for build options than the other 2 players, but voidreaper is an absolute requirement.
Player 3 (Tau player GETTING the achievement)
Prerequisites:
Commander: Tau
Minimum level: 20

Advised:
  • Has Completed completed the Dynamic Entry Achievement to unlock weapon wargear.
  • Is familiar with how to predict where the 16th wave will be, and has detailed knowledge of where EXACTLY the clones will spawn

Reccomended loadout:
Weapons
Command Issue Plasma Rifle OR Fusion Blaster AND Networked Weapon Interface
OR AND

Pick your preference. One does more damage but is less accurate the other deals less damage but is more accurate. What's important is they both excel against single target damage and deliver strong burst.

Armor
XV8 ‘Command’ Crisis Battlesuit

Primarily because it grants the Improved Targeting trait which Increases the wearer’s and nearby allies’ ranged damage by 15%.

Accessories
Energy core + Anti-Armor Missile Pod + Markerlight
+ +

Commander Item
Marker drone Controller

Player's role
To get the achievement.
Have the marker drone before the wave starts.
The Method
Now that it's all put together
Here's how it Ideally goes down

This should all take place in 8-13 seconds from wave start
Remember: You only have 5 seconds TOTAL to wipe the whole team of clones AFTER you kill the first clone.
NOT First clone killed, up to 5 seconds, second clone killed, additional up to 5 seconds.

  • Player 1 should have queued a jump, that lands on and stuns all clones AS they spawn in, with the ability to stun lock them for the foreseeable future. thanks to their wargear and armor choices explained above.
  • Player 2, the necron, should be able to comfortably walk up to them and cleave all the armor they have.
  • Now that they are all stunned, and their armor stripped, the necron should back off, so as not to attack anyone. And the support Tau player should be constantly either in flight or walking so that the cluster of clones is in range of another jump (the range of the tau jump is a donut, he will need to move away to be able to land on top of them).

    Now it's your time.

  • You need to mark the targets (if your or the other tau's drone haven't already).

  • Then, Fire the anti armor missiles at the physically larger of the 2 tau (this will be the Tau clone with +75 more HP than the clone of you).
If you targetted the wrong one and targetted the clone of you (The weakest of the 2), don't panic. There is a significant amount of redundancy baked into this strategy if every player has followed along.

  • Ideally, they're still so clustered together from how they spawned that this single target anti armor missile salvo does splash damage and wrecks the health bar of more than one of them
Fun fact: this ability alone was all I needed to unlock my achievement, close to 7 years ago from day of writing.

  • Your targets are still marked , meaning everything you've done to the clones from this point has dealt extra damage. Now is the time to activate the Markerlight (skyray missile barrage).

This should also deal some level of splash damage as well as dealing close to the entire health bar on every clone.
  • If you haven't obliterated the entire enemy team of clones by now (Which can happen, don't worry, you've not done anything wrong) two should be dead.
If anyone is left standing, your primary attacks should make short work of them.

You should also have Ion battery packs lying around, courtesy of your Tau support player for any energy top up you should need, as a safety net.
