In desolation, you enter a world with No building or NPC's. it is a survival variant where you need to gather and manage all your resources to survive. Managing your health and balancing your meals becomes allot more important. You must construct your own base.

So to help you several aspects of the main game differ in Desolation.

All crops will appear in the wild, You just need to search and collect them. You can then convert to seeds and start the process of creating your garden. Some crops require fertiliser and advanced fertiliser, This is also the same in Desolation.

Composters can now use meat as a replacement for fruit or old peelings, This allows you to create the required fertiliser.

Skill points are now around half the cost they used to be, This is because you cannot get them for free from NPC's. The skill list differs from the main game as looting is no longer an option.

You now need to build a base where before you could just take over a house, You have 3 days before the game will start sending hard enemies your way.

The Desolation Horde variant is available as DLC and is the same as Desolation but with timed hoards appearing at regular intervals, XP is gained at a faster rate and also plants have a slightly higher chance to appear.

Your cauldron will ask for different materials that are collectable, There are no charms in this version. The can use the scrolls you collect to make your own enchantments, allowing you the same upgrade path to your weapons as the main game.



Your Best path to success it to choose a base location near the intersection of more than biome, Near a water source and a tunnel entrance. Your best of putting important things on upper floors of your building as the downstairs can get decimated when attacked. Get A coop and a cockerel as quick as possible, Getting fertilizer for faster and some advanced crops is really important, Eggs are kind of useful as well.
