I tried in many different ways but couldn't place any furniture on it at all, but the rug looks nice.

This rug is converted from The Sims 4, so the mesh is completely flat which means the collision box has to be a bit higher than the ground so it doesn't clip with the floor. So you can place stuff on it as long as they're on the rug and not half off it, if that makes sense.
