The 13th Special Tactics Unit

The 13th Special Tactics Units (STU) is a specialist quick reaction force formed during the late Insurrection period just prior to the start of the Human-Covenant War; created to respond to urgent and immediate threats under the joint supervision of the Office of Naval Intelligence and Naval Special Warfare Command. This force is composed of joint units from the UNSC Marine Corps, Army and Navy formed together into a singular Marine Expeditionary Unit, with the intent of creating a potent force that is able to respond to a wide array of threats and scenarios.

The unit was founded in 2501, following a number of trial and error experiments following the release of the Carver Findings. It was developed under a similar pre-tense to a Commander’s In-extremis Force (CIF). These elements are designed to provide options to rescue people under threat, to recover sensitive materials such as weapons of mass destruction components, to provide humanitarian relief, or to address other short notice requirements.

Recruits are pooled from a number of sources. Generally, it is preferred that these individuals come from the ODST Special Purpose Forces, and receive additional training in a wide variety of roles.
