I meet same bug, but i play in coop, so my friend change checkpoint and i respawn correctly.

Cool scenario so far. I did run into a bug though where if I die with an extra life in the north marsh, I respawn in the water (stuck) instead of on the checkpoint. Fortunately, I can get killed by the swarms until I am out of lives, then loading from the checkpoint works... still probably worth looking into though.
