Companion Quest: A Drifter's Story... ('Definitive Edition')

In 1 collection by Dr. Igor Dolvich
Lore Friendly Role-Playing Experience v1.9.7.1 (2025)
462 items
Description
(You see a weathered man before you, eyes filled with a mix of determination and sorrow)

Ah, a sympathetic face amidst this sea of indifference... I can see the curiosity in your eyes... But please, allow me to speak first. My name is Morse, and I seek an ally, a companion who dares to walk beside me on this perilous journey... until the End...

Embark on a captivating adventure in 'A Drifter's Story...', a tale that weaves together sorrow, vengeance, and redemption. Join Morse, a haunted and determined soul, as he ventures into the Unknown... Navigate an intricate quest, encounter compelling characters, and make choices that will shape your Path.

Import Required

Features:
  • Fully compatible with any mods! I spent a long time testing various mods together, to ensure full compatibility! (Users of the 'Lore Friendly Role-Playing Experience' mod collection also receive unique Face textures for the main characters!)

  • Around 600 lines of dialogue have been written for Morse and the various characters you meet along his journey, the choices you make will affect the outcome of the Quest! Will you complete his quest in time...? You only have a few days to help him... before it's too late.

  • Dozens of skill / dialogue checks, similar to other great RPGs such as Disco Elysium and Planescape: Torment!

  • Follow the story of an average Drifter amidst the harsh world of Kenshi... The choices you make will give you positive, or negative, relations to "Drifters"... Will you become legendary, a Folk Tale, amongst the Drifters... or do you choose the Path of Infamy?

  • Multiple ways to complete the Finale, including a "Peaceful" resolution to the conflict, or... will you follow the Path of Vengeance...?

  • Over a dozen Easter Eggs within the Questline itself! (And maybe a few in the .mod itself...) Can you find all of them? (Let me know in the "Spoiler Discussion" which ones you've found!)

  • Morse, should you complete his Journey (until the End...), may be a recruitable Companion, depending on the choices you've made!

  • A legendary Meitou Claymore, 'Lament'! Thank you, @BryceBarry for allowing me to repack your wonderful Claymore model!

  • Serves as an introduction for both New and Experienced players alike! You can find him in Admag...

  • If you decide to open the .mod file in FCS, it can also serve as a Modder's Resource, should you want to design your own complex questlines! (I left a few Tips items you can open up in FCS to get more information, they're labeled #Dialogue Creation Tips... spoilers, obviously!)

Recommend Companion Mods:

  • Improve Relations by Healing or More Respect for Healing - Since the Drifter faction is now unlocked, you can further increase your relationship with Drifters around Kenshi! There are many dialogue checks in place currently that allow you to gain / lose relations with Drifters through multiple dialogue choices with Morse!

  • Dark UI - This will help 'highlight' the new Color Coding' I utilized in various dialogue checks to help emphasize various important information! (Note: works without Dark UI as well)

  • Weapons look Metallic and Meito Recolour: Dust Gold to make Morse's Sword (a potential reward for the questline) to look particularly nice!

Special shout out to everyone who has helped me along the way with the creation of this mod, it's far from being "Complete", as I may decide to add additional content in the future... Thank you, Cattrina on the Kenshi Community Discord[discord.gg] and BryceBarry for allowing me to repack his models!

If you haven't already, I would love if you also checked out the 'Lore Friendly Role-Playing Experience' Kenshi Collection!

Be sure to subscribe to the 'Kenshi Community Discord' if you haven't already!

You may use this mod however you wish, it's intended as both a playable mod and a Modder's Resource, should you wish to learn how to make new questlines yourself! If you release a mod utilizing this resource, please link it in your mod description so others may find it! The idea is to help spread quest designs and guides so others can help fill the world with new journeys to explore!

If you notice any bugs, please report them in the dedicated "Bug Report" discussion post!

Please, do not comment any particular spoilers in the Comments below, please use the dedicated "Spoiler Discussion" post if you wish to discuss Easter Eggs, spoilers, or other quest related topics...

@All

Reverted to a previous version from last year (that's how often I update my mods lol...) to hopefully fix some broken dialogues I may have accidentally pushed.

There will be an odd amount of med kits, as that's what I intended to fix recently, but hopefully my dialogue edits are reverted now and fix the Ending sequence. 🙏

Ah from this mod lol, was trying to ask where in the RPG Collection.

Morse is a unique recruit, his stats aren't necessarily super OP (it's mostly to fit with his backstory, if you talk to him long enough), but his Sword which is a unique one of a kind weapon that can be pretty devastating with decently high stats. If you talk to Morse long enough, he'll explain who the Sword was originally intended for.

I could probably rebalance his stats in particular, but it was mostly an attempt to help guide Players into the quest line and prevent him from immediately being KOed/killed during the quest, as the Swamps is pretty dangerous. And for him to be able to properly use the Sword as talked about above lol :cactusrum:

These characters have really powerful stats at the start and can be hired cheap, any way to fix that?

Thank you for the comment, it did make me laugh as it seems you're the first comment to mention trying it backwards. :cactusrum::beeped:

I tried to account for various ways to complete the quest, but just due to the nature of dialogue packages and unlockers/lockers for them, it became some what complex lol (can always look at the .mod file if you're ever interested, it serves as a modders resource/tutorial as well.

@ToothDooD

Lol no problem, glad you found the mod and wanted to try it out!

Yes, actually. If you loot that one Letter in Victor's house, you can just give it to Morse and he'll auto recruit. You'll know the Letter in question, as it's probably locked somewhere in his house . I never did get around to finishing that portion of the dialogue, as I spent waaay too long on the other direction for the quest (the Path through Morse).

It's currently mostly jokey placeholder texts, unfortunately. Maybe in the future I can finish that portion (have to figure out how to make it make sense in a story way, I suppose lol, since you're technically going backwards). I got a sort of writer's block once I started trying to reserve the quest if you encountered it like this instead.

Technically if you do Import, it more than likely will reset the entire quest back to normal (assuming you didn't kill Victor ).

Hey so I downloaded this as part of a mod collection I found, which I didn't realize this mod was a part of, (but I'm eager to try i!) and just so happened to have found a character named Victor and saw he had a huge bounty on him. So naturally as poor as I am I beat the crap out of him and all his friends. Afterward I was intrigued on learning more about the character and found he was linked to this mod (plus finding a few interesting items) I wanted to know if I was still able to complete mores's quest without import. I haven't even started it yet.

@Diegorayado2003

Guess you got a nice sword for your troubles :steamlaughcry:

You can still finish the Quest without him, but it might be a bad ending . :cactusrum:

What happens if he got eaten alive by some spiders while traveling to the destination?
Dr. Igor Dolvich  [author] 22 Oct, 2024 @ 7:28pm
There are outcomes if you fail entirely, such as Stealing his Claymore, killing him, stealing the map, killing certain people, etc. .

I tried to cover what I thought would possibly happen with various World States and dialogue lockers/unlockers

@SirReggie

If you wait a few days (for Morse to walk back to town lol), you can attempt the Quest again. Since Kenshi does Kenshi Things and you might not be able to trigger the "2nd chance" dialogue, you can just do an Import Game and he'll completely reset.

I'd recommend dropping Quest Items if you do plan on Importing to redo the quest, but ultimately up to you lol :cactusrum::beeped:

There is technically an outcome if you fail both times, but it may or may not trigger sometimes (Kenshi Things lol).
