Description
IMPORTANT! This modification is too heavy to upload on steam workshop. To install this modification you need to download it from NexusMods (Main File) https://www.nexusmods.com/xenonauts/mods/59?tab=files and unzip "Pataschka's DDR Commander" folder into ".../Steam/steamapps/common/Xenonauts/assets/mods" folder

For this modification to work properly you need Jsleezy's Real Armors

This modification can be used with Xenonauts Community Edition. One way (and probably the best one) to install Xenonauts Community Edition is to switch to the Community branch in Steam by right-clicking on Xenonauts, selecting Properties, going to the Betas tab and selecting Community. After the installation process is complete Khall's More Portraits addon in X:CE should be deactivated in the launcher.

Make sure that in the launcher Pataschka's DDR Commander prioritized higher than Jsleezy's Real Armors

This mod changes rank images, character images at the base, and the uniforms of the agents (basic and jackal armor) in the style of East Germany to give the game a more Cold War-era look. The jackal and basic armor unit colours at the ground combat were reskinned to reflect the colour schemes of the changed uniforms.

At the main menu screen:
- At the difficulty screen each uniform was repainted in the following order: easy - Hauptmann, normal - Major, veteran - Oberstleutnant, insane - Oberst
At the base:
- The uniform of the drill instructor in the personnel tab was changed to DDR NVA paratrooper uniform with a rank of Feldwebel
- In the storage screen the character's uniform was edited to DDR NVA paratrooper uniform with a rank of Fahnrich
- All the soldier photos were edited to have a parade paratrooper parade uniform with an orange beret.
- In the roster screen the basic uniform was replaced with DDR NVA field uniform with strichtarn pattern
- the jackal uniform was replaced with DDR NVA field uniform with a bulletproof vest and paratrooper helmet
- Ranking images were changed from the original to the East German "shoulder board" variant to match the soldier uniforms

Ground combat:
Jackal and Basic armor units were recoloured from blue to yellow-brown colour.
Credits:
The uniform images that were used for the difficulty screen and the uniform elements of the Drill instructor were not made by me. They belong to EmperorGrieferus who kindly gave me their permission to use them in the modification,
The only thing I edited:
1. For the difficulty screen:
- changed the shoulder boards and tweaked a little the elements on the uniforms
- Smoothed a bit the pixel-like lines of the uniforms

2. The paratrooper parachute emblem and some of the elements for the drill instructor uniform was taken fro DAKY-Illustrations's [DDR] [NVA] early East German Paratrooper [SC1] art. DAKY-Illustrations kindly gave me their permission to use them in the modification.

3. The uniform and orange beret for the operative's photos were edited from Glorfindel's art from http://www.shipbucket.com/

The original image can be found here https://i.imgur.com/biCzLEP.png

I only cut, edited, and placed them into the game.

Though they can be freely accessed from the internet by anyone, I couldn't register on the forums to ask permission from Glorfindel.
I give full credit to Glorfindel as the author of the original image. If you're Glorfindel and for some reason, you see the usage of your art as inappropriate, please PM me and I'll remove them as soon as possible.

Also, I want to point out that the basic armor uniform was inspired by Glorfindel's field dress art.

4. Rank images were made based on the Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_ranks_of_East_Germany

Disclaimer:
The purpose of this modification is to give the game the Cold War atmosphere to match the setting of the game, however, the author of this modification isn't trying in any way to propagate any regime or ideology.

Special Thanks:
- Goldhawk Interactive - for creating and publishing such a beautiful game
- EmperorGrieferus - for the parade uniform art
- DAKY-Illustrations - for the uniform art
- Glorfindel - for the field Dress art
- People from Wikipedia who made the Military Ranks of East Germany page

@GeneralShotgun Hey, Hi. I can do that, sure. But to change groundcombat variant would be quite hard (sadly they aren't 3d, so I will have to change too many images and angles for a hat).

impressive i think an idea for a mod you could do is take the satchel and pouches and the basic armor helmet on the ddr models and combine them on the vanilla models as a roster screen model change

Glad you were able to make it work! I guess th fact that name of the mod in the mod list differs from the mod name on nexus is a little bit confusing. And it's nice to hear that you like it! You're welcome! Wish you a pleasant playthrough! :steamhappy:

I think I got it running. Seems like ""Jsleezy's Real Armors" is indeed somehow preinstalled with CE.
Anyway, I find it extremely refreshing someone put a faction like the NVA and Bundeswehr into this game. I am going to enjoy this immensely during my first playthrough of the game. Loving the Mig-21. Thanks for your work!

Thanks for answering!
Sadly there is no mod with the name "Jsleezy's Real Armors" in the mod list of CE. Does it have another name there?
I downloaded the mod from Nexus. But I cannot add the mod to CE's mod list after downloading it. But I understood I need to have it in this list so that I can priorize your mod over it?

Hello Dude! As far as I remember it should be in the mod list of the Community Edition. But if it's not there for some reason, you can always download it from nexus https://www.nexusmods.com/xenonauts/mods/1?tab=description

I'd love to use this but I cannot get "Jsleezy's Real Armors" to work in in CE so that I can set the priority of the mods. Sadly Jsleezy's Real Armors is not on Steam Workshop to easily install it via the CE.
Any tips here?
