Dolphin

Description
Designed for singleplayer experiences, the Dolphin is a tier 1 scout-class submarine. It provides a resource scarce challenge to both one-off missions and the start of campaigns, placing decision making and responsibility on it's sole inhabitant.

"Dolphin is a civilian vessel that doubles as a mobile home. This mass produced submarine provides adequate living conditions, and comes equipped with a refurbished turret and a military-grade sonar system."
- In-game description

Notable Features

Layout
Because the only pump is located in the open-plan ballast, water from the airlock and command room has to be drained by manually opening doors to let the water flow. Both piloting the submarine and operating it's turret can done from a seated position in the command room.

Armament and Coverage
The singular dorsal coilgun has limited sightlines, serving a more defensive role. Supercapacitor charge capacity is feeble, and needs upgrades to sustain long conflicts.

Storage and Equipment
While the interior has limited storage capacity, the topside exterior can hold up to two cargo crates for miscellaneous storage and cargo delivery missions.

Wi-Fi Channels
This submarine does not use Wi-Fi.

Trivia
  • Topside hull is reinforced at the cost of a more vulnerable underbelly.
  • Manually outfitted supplies include Assistant Clothes and The Sailor's Guide, making more jobs viable to start with.
  • Due to it's incredibly small size, the submarine will sink when the airlock is filled with water. It is recommended to secure footing on a stationary surface before venturing out.

@ZeGuardsmen not that it matters, but yes it has been updated since the 1.0-release, and will continue to be updated when it's neccessary, or if i feel like taking advantage of new features might improve it

@soft oh nice just looked at it but is it updated to current 1.0 build? since after that most subs and mods got tweeked when that happen.:barotrauma:

@ZeGuardsmen the dolphin exists to provide a specific kind of perspective on barotrauma and the gameplay feel that's very different from the regular experience. i don't believe i have anything meaningful to add to the dolphin's concept right now, but if you want a bigger submarine from me, there's always the beluga which is a more conventional all-rounder

@soft ever gonna make a second version but bigger?:barotrauma:

congratulations on making it through the eye of europa :0 that's a sick achievement
i initially had some inner conflicts with the airlock, but ended up finding it charming that this civilian sub-shuttle sized submarine has to be embarked out of while parked on solid ground. rewiring it to suit various needs after purchase is strongly encouraged :- )

Cool ship for solo.

I need to do a little ajustment on the airlock( just 2 wires and when 1 door open the other close) because if not the sub go deep when you go outside.

Outside this little thing I'm having a lot of fun with this submarine.
Very funny the outside extra storage xD

No way to siphon water off an airlock. Craft goes down like a rock unless some modifications are made

I did it, passed through the Eye of Europa in the Dolphin :)

Storage was a real struggle, but the changes to Assistant made it so much easier, with backpacks and eventually exosuits for extra storage space.
The main worry was the single gun and low reactor output, so for almost all fights I had to park the submarine somewhere low and be very selective where I shot. The amount of items just left on the floor was wild lol

This thing is simply underwater coffin. Why would you make its cannon so easily discharged, while making reactor so weak that when charging the cannon eveything else shuts down? But I loved the design btw, very cozy little sub. Still while using this one beware as even a pair of crawlers would be a challange.
