Galdur Pod Vanilla Pack

Description
Galdur Pod Vanilla Pack

The Galdur Scout Pod is a hybrid shuttle and drone (onboard or remote control), controlled entirely from a single periscope for both moving and shooting, with no mods required.

The only way to use shuttles and drones right now is to add them to a submarine in the sub editor, so I added the Galdur Pod to all of the vanilla subs that have the bottom hatch needed for docking (nine of them) for anyone who wants to try it out that way. My group has been having a lot of fun with it on the Typhon2!

This pack doesn't replace the vanilla subs, it just gives you extra copies of them with the Galdur Pod added. Each sub has its vanilla name with "+pod" added to the end, e.g. "Typhon2+pod". Nothing about the vanilla subs is changed except the minimum to get the Galdur Pod attached and working. Specifically:
  • If necessary, update the bottom hatch to make it compatible with docking.
  • Add a new periscope next to the navigation terminal for remote control of the Galdur Pod.
  • Fix bot waypoints so they can get in and out of the pod when it's docked.

For subs that had a bottom airlock, this means the airlock is now blocked by the shuttle. This is usually okay — you can just take the Galdur Pod wherever you were planning to swim to, or you can use a different airlock, or you can ask your captain to maneuver the pod out of the way while you use the airlock. A few of the subs (Camel, Humpback, and Remora) don't have a second airlock to use, though, so it's more of an issue on those.

This pack doesn't change the cost of any of the vanilla subs, and getting a free shuttle with a chaingun is at least a bit of a power boost. If you want to try to keep the balance of the original vanilla subs you could leave one hardpoint empty, or for the Kastrull or Remora you could scuttle their original drones.

Galdur Pod Basic Info

You can find the full details at the Galdur Pod workshop page or by reading the logbook that comes in its storage locker, but the basics are:

Control the pod either from the onboard periscope or from the periscope on the main sub next to the navigation terminal. Both periscopes can be in use at the same time. From either periscope:
  • Click and hold to move in the direction of the cursor. Release to auto-stop.
  • Double click and hold to fire the chaingun.
  • Double click on the hatch (or its shadow) to dock or undock.
  • While docked, click to fire the chaingun like a normal turret.

There's no oxygen generator onboard, so wear a diving suit! And when you need to get out during a mission, make sure you park the pod on the sea floor or some other surface first, because it will sink like a rock when you open the hatch.

Also note that the cursor is relative to the turret, so if you want to move straight up or down, keep your cursor above or below the turret rather than the center of the shuttle.

Submarines included
  • Camel+pod
  • Humpback+pod
  • Kastrull+pod
  • Orca+pod
  • Orca2+pod
  • R-29+pod
  • Remora+pod
  • Typhon+pod
  • Typhon2+pod

Other Notes

If you want to do additional wiring of the docking hatch in-game (for example, we wired our Typhon2 lower docking hatch to also work as an airlock), you'll need to undock from the hatch while you work on it. If you don't, the wires are greyed out and say "locked".
