M23 'Trident' Advanced Main Battle Tank

Description
The M23 'Trident'

The M23 is a state-of-the-art Main Battle Tank. Equipped with an advanced fire control system paired with excellent situational awareness, this tank outmatches everything in its class in long range as well as low visibility engagements. The M23 is able to withstand many anti-tank munitions to the front and sides with its spaced armor consisting of weight blocks and forward-facing subgrid panels. The Trident is built from the ground up for crew survivability. There have been many instances where the vehicle has been rendered useless, however the crew is still uninjured.

Defining Features
  • 4 Crew Members (Commander, Driver, Gunner, Loader)
  • Active Turret Traversal Stability
  • Active Cannon Elevation Stability
  • Ballistic Calculator
  • Laser-Guided Anti-Tank-Guided Missile
  • Short and Long-Range Radio
  • Smoke and Chaff Dispensers
  • Redundant Systems
  • Quick-Start Turbine Engine With Fuel Efficiency Modes
  • APU For Electrical Power
With a mass of 8,200 Kilos, the M23 is light enough to tow or even airlift. With its advanced fire control system, The Trident is able to accurately engage with targets up to a distance of 4 kilometers as well as being able to fire on the move even on rough terrain. The main cannon isn't the M23s only armament, the remotely operated CROWS turret controlled by the Commander can be used for infantry and lightly armored targets. The laser-guided ATGM can be used to destroy even the most armored of low speed aircraft and ground targets. The vehicle is outfitted with infrared technology to allow for low visibility operation. 33 rounds with 3 differing types are provided for the cannon while 2 additional ammo drums are stored on the turret bustle for the CROWS turret. An additional ATGM is also provided on the hull. The vehicle has multiple access points between the side-skirts and into the engine bay, this allows for rapid and easy repair of the vehicle.

Crew Roles

Each crew member is provided with a radio, service pistol, and first-aid kit as well as infrared displays.

The Commander keeps the crew organized. They control the CROWS turret, radio, illumination flares, and comfort related systems. The Commander has immediate access to interior welding torches and fire extinguishers. The Commander is provided with an overhead compass to relay directional commands to the Gunner. They are also provided with binoculars and night vision binoculars as their seat moves up and out of the turret to allow for greater visibility. The Gunner's hatch must be closed in order to open the Commander's hatch.

The Gunner's job is to operate the cannon and ATGM. The cannon is stabilized both vertically and by azimuth to allow firing on the move and greater target acquisition. The cannon is incorporated with a ballistic stabilizer that aims upwards to account for bullet drop when the Gunner activates the rangefinder. The ATGM is launched by toggling the "Launch" button and disabling it once the missile has impacted its intended target. The missile is guided by the Gunner's optic. The Gunner also operates countermeasures. Once the vehicle is detecting that it is being painted by a radar, the operator can enable the chaff dispensers, these launch towards the turrets direction and scrambles radar lock-on. Chaff has 2 charges. The gunner also operates the smoke dispensers. These obscure the M23 visually and dispense smoke towards the turrets direction, this also has 2 charges. The Gunner's seat also raises up and out of the vehicle to allow for greater visibility.

The Loader's job is to load the cannon and replace a diseased crew member. They also repair damaged systems and restock equipment.

The Driver drives the tank and operates the APU, they also repair damaged systems. The tank is susceptible to rollovers while in 2nd gear. The APU shall not run for more than 5 minutes or it risks damage. There is an emergency exit located on the floor of the vehicle behind the driver.

The M23 Trident has a maximum speed of 45 Miles Per Hour and has 1,300 gallons of fuel.

Engine Startup

Fuel Pumps: ON
Engine Electrics: ON
Hold "Ignition Sequence" for approximately 1 second or until RPM reaches 30.
Once engine RPM has stabilized at idle speed, set "Engine Operating Speed" to ON.

To start APU:
Electrics: ON
Within a few seconds press and hold APU starter until APU is running. Do not run for extended periods of time.

Hey could I upload this tank, but with my version? I simply switched out the main battle cannon for an artillery cannon, and switched the ammo too.

Lol no worries, I usually only leave feedback when I have a gripe as well lmao
Seems like an update messed with the micro controllers then. I could take a look at it next time I feel like dealing with the game again but in the meantime you should be able to find the controllers by following the gunner's seat output.

NO worries, sorry to only leave the feedback when I have a gripe! The detail put into it is great, it's obvious that you're an enthusiast about tanks. I commented because the computer was working before when I played around with this tank when I first subscribed, but now the calculation isn't even working as a guide now. It's more accurate to use the secondary sight. If I can figure out how to tweak complicated builds I may take a look at it myself but I'm a rube when it comes to stormworks lol

Thank you! I really appreciate your feedback.
The ballistics calculator I ripped from the workshop and slightly tweaked. However, I've never been TOO happy with it. For this vehicle its more of a guide to help the user to be more accurate while firing.
With that, if I do make another vehicle with a cannon, (Yes "if" because I've stopped playing due to the game becoming increasingly difficult to play) I will make a more accurate ballistic calculator.

Hey there. Love this tank but I think the rangefinder system is broken - the gun never elevates enough and always falls short. It seems to start at a default where rounds hit the ground not far in front of it. Feels like either the rangefinder itself is the problem or there's something up with the gun elevation/depression.

ok what about like a next gen tank with still a 4 man crew and maybe a highter chance of survival from atgms. it may be a little much to ask but i belive in you

Yeah I was experimenting with designs similar to an M1128 Stryker MGS.

possibly a light tank or an ifv would be sick
