This guide covers all the officers in the game and their skills. It's updated for the full 2.0 game release now.

It's on googledocs because of formatting being much easier than it is here, and it allows me to colour-code various items so that we can place picks in distinct tier-lists.

Steam sometimes misbehaves and treats googledocs as a suspicious site. It's just a text document, so go figure. But just in case, I've placed the same link here:
https ://docs.google .com/document/d/1zeVC-GlZEXb1yVEfMElwLv-K9wsoIt3-
Simply remove the spaces between the https and the .com

If you'd like a preview of what it looks like:

As a bonus, I also made additional portrait parts for your captain and officers, which you can get here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c0aMVPDlaZ85NKcRTbvEBo4ImE3yUBlh/view?usp=sharing

As it stands, if you want to use them now, they will replace ones that are already there, and you'll have to throw them in your X:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Approaching Infinity\media\Images\AvatarSprites directory. But it may be they will be added to the game in future as my previous additions were.

The Gruff skills are actually insane except for Beast Master which is great flavor. He's actually crazy OP, especially in space.

The "endings" don't make sense to me. It's a roguelike called Approaching Infinity lol! It should be baked into the game to try to get as far as you can and survive as long as you can. But instead there are these faction quest lines that just end the game.

Obviously in general I can't rate any skill based on an artifact since they're so random. They can make for fun runs though.

Level 12... don't think I've ever had a captain go that high. I start wanting to finish a specific racial questline, and get it finished. At a certain point, usually around Sector 17-20 I find, you've got a great shipwreck ship, don't need more data or money, so you zoom to the ending. In most cases, I'll finish the game at Level 8-10.

I also had an artifact that gave me Urban Warfare and it's amazing in ships, especially vs Narcratu. Another artifact gave me Ammo Belt. It's really strong but be prepared for it to randomly shoot nano bullets and start some chaos.

The Pirate and Sigorn have nifty skills related to money but unfortunately there's nothing to do with extra money once you get past the early game.

"Toxic Touch" is actually amazing. I had it on level 4 from an artifact and liked it so much I infused it. The skill caps at 3 but starting at level 12 you can infinitely boost any skill. A lot of enemies are immune to toxic but anything that isn't gets absolutely wrecked. 300% dmg, and you can keep going with it if you're going infinite cuz guess who's weak to toxic? Narcratu.

It led me to trying Toxic Penetrator and it's really interesting. Start nailing a ship with three of those and no matter how buff it is once its crew goes down to zero it pops. And that happens fast with this.

Not worth having the Pirate officer in lategame though probably.

Do you know if Orange officers can be hired at an asteroid base? If so then you could build around them early. Definitely can with Gruff and Sigorn and the Pirate one would be useful if gotten early enough. If we could grab them at a base early I think they could be very useful.

Hm, I haven't seen any show up myself yet, so yes, I imagine it's quite a rarity, but it's nice to know they're added to the pool; that might indeed make them a big option.

Gruff is pretty good if you're on a fighting quest-line, and you like Cannons. I myself am indeed fond of Railguns, but personally I do also like carrying a mixed armament with a similar range, so I would have to give up my Pulse Laser or Antimatter Blaster etc. Carrying an undodgable energy weapon is very nice in some circumstances, after all.

The Gruff one actually looks kinda insane! The cannon and crit skills are uber powerful.

Oh whoops I guess maybe that's rare? That was the only time I've seen him at any station. He's the only one I've unlocked. I guess if they show up early it's something to consider.

Thank you! I haven't read it all yet but I noticed you commented that one of the pirate skills isn't that impactful once he's available. Actually once they're unlocked the orange officers could show up in sector 2 in a new game. The Sigorn one did for me. It was pretty sweet actually because I was able to use his trade skills for a while for an early boost and then I dismissed him when I needed to fill out my party as I originally intended. I don't know how rare they are but if the pirate one showed up early it might be more useful, even if temporarily.
